    NOVATEK to Supply LNG to Transneft for Cargo Truck Fleet

    PAO NOVATEK and PAO Transneft signed an Agreement on Cooperation in Gas Motor Fuel. According to the Agreement, Transneft is considering purchasing LNG from NOVATEK to refuel its cargo truck fleet. The Agreement also confirms the intention of Transneft to replace its old diesel-powered trucks by new gas-powered vehicles.

    NOVATEK’s First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board Lev Feodosyev said “This agreement is consistent with NOVATEK’s strategy to expand the use of LNG as a motor fuel and to develop the necessary refueling infrastructure,” noted. Switching to LNG in road transportation can significantly reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere, as well as achieve a lower overall cost to consumers compared to diesel fuel”.

    Yamal LNG Receives Transshipment Tank at Zeebrugge LNG Terminal

    PAO NOVATEK announced that OAO Yamal LNG started using a dedicated LNG transshipment tank at the Zeebrugge LNG terminal in Belgium as part of a 20-year transshipment agreement between the Project’s subsidiary Yamal Trade and Fluxys LNG NV/SA. The dedicated LNG tank was built specifically for the transshipment needs of Yamal LNG with a capacity of 180,000 cubic meters, allowing the Project to transship up to 8 million tons of LNG per annum.

    NOVATEK’s First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board Lev Feodosyev said “The LNG tank construction for Yamal LNG began in Zeebrugge in 2015 and its commissioning is a key milestone for the Project. The use of a dedicated LNG tank increases the reliability of LNG supplies from Yamal LNG under long-term offtake agreements, as well as increases the number of LNG cargos transshipped in Europe for delivery to other markets, and, primarily, the fastest growing markets in Asia.”

    Zeebrugge laadt eerste schip met LNG uit nieuwe opslagtank

    In de haven van Zeebrugge is voor het eerst een schip geladen met vloeibaar gemaakt aardgas uit de recent opgeleverde LNG-opslagtank. Eigenaar van de terminal Fluxys ziet dit als de start van een in 2015 gesloten langetermijncontract met het Russische Yamal Trade.

    probunkerswas established in 2017. Its headquarters are based in Athens, Greece. The company will have shareholding control over a group of companies operating in the sectors of shipping and energy. The Shipping division designed, willbuild, own and operate a fleet of LNG supply vessels. The Commercial Companies will also be fully owned by the Holding company. The Commercial division will have presence and operate in at least seven geographical locations across the globe, through local branches.

    'Chinese CNOOC stopt lng-leveringen om coronavirus'

    HONGKONG (AFN) - Het Chinese staatsolie- en gasconcern CNOOC is gestopt met de aanname van leveringen van vloeibaar gemaakt aardgas (lng) vanwege de uitbraak van het nieuwe coronavirus. Dat meldden bronnen aan persbureau Bloomberg. CNOOC zou zich daarbij beroepen op overmacht, ofwel force majeure.

    Volgens de ingewijden heeft CNOOC lng-leveranciers als Shell en Total laten weten voorlopig geen lng af te nemen. Het staatsbedrijf is de grootste Chinese koper van lng. Het zou voor het eerst zijn dat force majeure wordt uitgesproken op de grondstoffenmarkt vanwege het coronavirus. Branchegenoot PetroChina meldde op zijn beurt verstoringen bij activiteiten bij lng-terminals omdat er niet genoeg werknemers zijn om die faciliteiten op volle capaciteit te laten draaien.

    De zaak geeft aan dat de uitbraak van het besmettelijke virus steeds meer een impact op de Chinese economie en de handel in grondstoffen begint te krijgen.

    LONDEN (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Shell heeft een deal getekend met Qatargas voor de levering van vloeibaar gemaakt aardgas (lng) aan Koeweit. Dat maakten de partijen bekend, zonder financiële details naar buiten te brengen.

    Het gaat om een langjarige overeenkomst waarbij vanaf 2020 jaarlijks 1 miljoen ton lng wordt geleverd aan Koeweit. De lng-leveringen komen van Qatar Liquefied Gas, een samenwerkingsverband tussen Qatar Petroleum en Shell. Qatar is 's werelds grootste exporteur van lng.

    SYDNEY (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Shell krijgt meer tijd van de Australische autoriteiten om aan gestelde veiligheidseisen te voldoen met zijn Prelude-installatie, een enorm drijvend productieplatform voor vloeibaar gemaakt aardgas (lng) voor de kust van West-Australië. Het olie- en gasconcern krijgt vanwege "verzachtende omstandigheden" door het nieuwe coronavirus daarvoor nu tot 31 mei de tijd.

    Volgens de toezichthouder Nopsema had Shell bij de vorige controle "aanzienlijke vooruitgang laten zien" om uiteindelijk te voldoen aan de voorschriften. Eind januari werd Shell gesommeerd om de veiligheid bij Prelude te verbeteren.

    De drijvende gasfabriek heeft een lengte van 488 meter, een breedte van 74 meter en een waterverplaatsing van circa 600.000 ton, waarmee het 's werelds grootste vaartuig is.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Royal Dutch Shell is niet langer van plan een belang te nemen in het Lake Charles LNG project. Dit maakte de Brits-Nederlandse oliereus maandag bekend.

    "De beslissing ligt in lijn met de maatregelen die we afgelopen week hebben aangekondigd om kapitaal in kas te houden en om de veerkracht van onze activiteiten te verhogen", aldus Maarten Wetselaar, director Integrated Gas and New Energies bij Shell. "Hoewel we nog steeds te spreken zijn over de langetermijnkansen van het project, is het nu niet de tijd voor Shell om te investeren."

    Shell en Energy Transfer zouden een gelijk belang nemen in het LNG project, om een bestaande importterminal van Energy Transfer om te bouwen tot een LNG-exportfaciliteit in het Amerikaanse Lake Charles.

    Shell kondigde vorige week aan de investeringen dit jaar terug te schroeven van 25 miljard naar 20 miljard dollar.

    Kan de aardgasprijs óók negatief worden?

    De wereld wordt niet alleen overspoeld met olie, maar ook met aardgas. Een sterk toegenomen wereldwijde productie van aardgas in de afgelopen jaren zorgt in combinatie met een warme winter en de effecten van de coronamaatregelen nu voor scherp dalende gasprijzen.

    De prijs van aardgas is op de gasmarkt in Nederland in een week tijd met bijna 20% gedaald tot onder de €6 per megawattuur. Prijzen voor gas stonden al voor de coronacrisis onder druk, maar worden nu nog harder geraakt doordat de vraag naar aardgas afzwakt.

    Zonne- en windenergie

    Europa produceert zelf gas, maar ontvangt ook veel gas via pijpleiding vanuit Rusland en Noorwegen en in toenemende mate in vloeibare vorm per boot vanuit de Verenigde Staten en het Midden-Oosten. Allemaal vechten deze aanbieders om marktaandeel. Er is geen Opec-achtig gaskartel dat in staat is de productie te reguleren.

    'Als het maar blijft komen, waar moet dat gas dan heen', aldus Hakkert. De lage gasprijs zorgde er volgens hem vroeger voor dat gasgestookte energiecentrales aan gingen of harder gingen draaien ten koste van kolencentrales, maar gascentrales draaien nu al. Bovendien zorgt gunstig weer voor een recordproductie aan wind- en zonne-energie in de afgelopen weken, waardoor het marktaandeel van in gascentrales geproduceerde elektriciteit nog verder afneemt.

    Ondergrondse opslag

    Een overschot aan gas dus. En dat wordt onder andere in ondergrondse opslaglocaties, zoals in Bergermeer in Nederland, gepompt.

    Normaal gesproken worden de gasopslagen in Europa gedurende de winter deels leeg getrokken tot een niveau van ongeveer 38%, maar door de milde winter, stond het niveau dit jaar begin maart op 60%. Dat was het hoogste niveau ooit gemeten voor maart. Uit cijfers van Gas Infrastructure Europe blijkt dat de opslagcapaciteit daarna is teruggelopen tot 54% begin april, maar daarna is gaan oplopen tot inmiddels meer dan 61%. 'De opslag in Europa was al best vol, maar raakt de komende twee maanden waarschijnlijk echt vol', zegt Charel Hakkert, hoofd asset backed trading bij energiemaatschappij Eneco.

    Prijsval

    'Dan kom je op het punt dat er gasputten dicht moeten', verwacht Hakkert. Ook worden er al schepen met grote ladingen vloeibaar gas door afnemers afbesteld.

    Hakkert acht het zeker niet ondenkbaar dat de gasprijs net als die van olie onder nul zakt. Producenten van aardgas betalen dan aan de afnemer voor een lading gas, in plaats daarvoor geld te ontvangen. 'Wanneer de opslag vol is en je nergens meer heen kunt met gas kun je verwachten dat de gasmarkt hetzelfde zal reageren als de oliemarkt', zegt Hakkert.

    Kan de gasprijs negatief worden? 'We moeten dat voor een korte periode niet uitsluiten', zegt ook Martijn Rats, olie- en gasanalist bij Morgan Stanley tegenover persbureau Bloomberg.

    Shell steekt geld in uitbreiding Nigeriaans lng-project

    DEN HAAG (AFN) - Olie- en gasreus Shell heeft een definitief investeringsbesluit genomen over een lng-project (vloeibaar gemaakt aardgas) in Nigeria. Daarbij werden overigens geen bedragen genoemd.

    Eenmaal operationeel voegt de nieuwe eenheid genaamd Train 7 ongeveer 8 miljoen ton capaciteit per jaar toe aan de Bonny Island-faciliteit. Daarmee komt de totale capaciteit op 30 miljoen ton per jaar.

    De beslissing om een zevende unit te realiseren, helpt de verdere ontwikkeling van Nigeria LNG, aldus Shell. De bouwschema's zullen worden afgerond als de situatie rond het coronavirus stabiliseert.

    Nigeria LNG is een samenwerking tussen het Nigeriaanse olieconcern NNPC dat 49 procent bezit, Shell dat ruim een kwart in handen heeft en Total en ENI die voor respectievelijk 15 en 10,4 procent eigenaar zijn.

    AMSTERDAM (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Olie- en gasreus Shell is een verkoopproces voor lng-bezittingen in Australië begonnen. Dat meldt zakenkrant The Australian, zonder daarbij te vermelden hoe het aan de informatie is gekomen.

    Het gaat om infrastructuuractiva die gerelateerd is aan de Queensland Curtis Island lng-fabriek. De steigers, opslagfaciliteit en andere nutsvoorzieningen zouden tot 2,5 miljard dollar waard kunnen zijn, aldus de berichten.

    Het verkoopproces zou naar verwachting nog dit jaar worden afgerond. Shell weigerde commentaar te geven.

    Volkswagen Ships Cars to US in LNG Powered MV SIEM CONFUCIUS

    For the first time, vehicles from Europe will be transported from Europe to North and Central America on a car freighter powered by liquefied natural gas. On Tuesday evening the SIEM CONFUCIUS with more than 4,800 vehicles for North America left Emden for Veracruz in the Gulf of Mexico. The LNG drive reduces carbon dioxide emissions by up to 25 percent, nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 30 percent, soot particles by up to 60 percent and sulphur oxide emissions by up to 100 percent.

    Like her sister ship, which is expected to enter service this year, the technologically ultramodern SIEM CONFUCIUS, which is 200 metres long and 38 metres wide, has 13 car decks and a capacity of 7,500 Car Equivalent Unit, which corresponds to around 4,800 vehicles in the Volkswagen Group model mix from passenger cars to light commercial vehicles. The ships are powered by 12,600 kW dual-fuel marine engines with direct injection and exhaust gas after treatment from MAN Energy Solutions. In eco-speed mode they travel at a speed of 16.5 knots. The two tanks in each ship, each holding 1,800 cubic metres, are sufficient to cover the entire distance with the fuel stowed in Europe. In addition to liquid, deep-frozen natural gas, the car carriers could also be operated with biogas or E-gas from regenerative sources.

    Volkswagen Group Logistics organizes, coordinates and is responsible for around 7,700 ship departures worldwide every year. Several hundred liners and eleven car freighter charter ships, two of which are now being replaced by the LNG units, sail the world’s oceans for the Group every day. They ship 2.8 million new cars a year.

    Chevron begint verkoopproces belang Australisch lng-project

    SAN RAMON (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Het Amerikaanse olie- en gasconcern Chevron begint een verkoopproces voor zijn belang in een groot project voor vloeibaar gemaakt aardgas (lng) in Australië. Het gaat om het North West Shelf-project.

    Chevron heeft een belang van bijna 17 procent in dat project en is al benaderd door mogelijke kopers. Andere deelnemers in North West Shelf zijn BP, Shell, BHP, Woodside Petroleum en Japan Australia LNG. De totale waarde van het project wordt geraamd op 34 miljard dollar. North West Shelf ligt aan de kust van het noordwesten van Australië en is van de grootste en oudste lng-projecten van het land.

    Shell wil belang in LNG-project Abadi verkopen - media

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Royal Dutch Shell is van plan om zijn belang van 35 procent in het LNG-project Abadi bij het Indonesische eiland Masela te verkopen. Dit zou de Indonesische toezichthouder op de olie- en gasmarkt hebben gemeld volgens persbureau Bloomberg.

    Volgens een medewerker van de toezichthouder zou het Japanse Inpex, dat een belang van 65 procent in het project heeft, het resterende belang van Shell graag overnemen. In juni 2019 sloot Inpex een overeenkomst met de lokale overheid om het project ter waarde van 20 miljard dollar op te zetten.

    Een woordvoerder van Shell wilde tegenover Bloomberg niet reageren op de berichtgeving.

    Cameron LNG Train 3 Begins Commercial Operation

    On August 10, the Cameron LNG Project commenced commercial operation of its third liquefaction train. All three liquefaction trains have now started commercial operation, completing the construction of one of the world's largest LNG production facility, which exports more than 12 million tons of LNG per annum. The Project is operated by Cameron LNG LLC, whose partners and shareholders include Sempra Energy 50.2%, TOTAL 16.6%, Mitsui & Co Ltd. 16.6% and Japan LNG Investments LLC 16.6%. NYK will also provide some of the LNG transport required by the Project’s customers. Please see the schematic diagram below.

    In accordance with its medium-term management plan “Staying Ahead 2022 with Digitalization and Green,” NYK is becoming more involved in various parts of the LNG value chain. Through its participation in this Project, NYK will obtain a deeper knowledge of overall LNG business activities, which will create new business opportunities and allow the company to continue to secure stable-freight-rate business.

    AMSTERDAM (AFN) - Shell heeft de indruk dat de markt voor vloeibaar gemaakt aardgas (lng) dit jaar nog steeds groeit. Dat zeggen analisten van RBC Capital Markets in een notitie na een bijeenkomst met Maarten Wetselaar, de directeur van Integrated Gas & New Energies van Shell. Daarmee blijft het olie- en gasconcern behoorlijk positief over de vooruitzichten voor de markt.

    Hoewel de vraag naar gas in de loop van de tijd "met opkomende concurrentie van andere bronnen te maken heeft, verwacht Shell niet dat deze tot 2040 wezenlijk zullen zijn". Shell zou verder kansen zien in de overschakeling van kolen naar gas in diverse landen, met name in Azië. Ook leek de onderneming in de bijeenkomst "optimistischer" over een mogelijke deelname aan de uitbreidingen op het vlak van lng in Qatar dan in eerdere gesprekken met analisten.

    RBC hanteert een outperform-advies voor Shell. Het aandeel Shell sloot woensdag op 12,26 euro.

    Gasum to Supply LNG to Celsa Armeringsstal AS

    Gasum has secured an agreement with Celsa Armeringsstal AS in Mo i Rana in Norway. The agreement includes both the delivery of LNG and a new customer terminal at Mo industrial park. Celsa Armeringsstal AS is the Nordic region's leading manufacturer of reinforcing steel. The company produces steel from scrap metal and thus recycles approx. 700,000 tonne of metal every year and has invested heavily in sustainability in recent years. The transition to LNG will help the company reach the goal of reducing CO2 emissions.

    Celsa Armeringsstal AS aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 50 percent by 2030, and by 2050 be completely CO2-neutral. Celsa Reinforcing Steel uses approx. 500 GWh of energy. A switch to LNG will reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 35%, which will be one of the most significant climate measures in the Mo i Rana area. The LNG from Gasum will be used in the steel production and rolling mill at Celsa Armeringsstal.

    The use of LNG as a fuel provides a significant reduction in both local air pollution and carbon emissions compared to various oil products and coal. A switch from oil to LNG completely removes SOx and particulate emissions and reduces NOx emissions by up to 85 percent.

    The terminal in Mo Industrial Park will be ready for operation on 1 July 2021.

    The LNG is delivered to Mo i Rana by truck from Gasum's partly owned terminal in Tornio in northern Finland. The Tornio terminal is the largest LNG terminal in the Nordic region. It is located on the border with Sweden and is thus ideally located to serve customers in Finland, Sweden and Norway.

    Siemens Energy to Help Reduce Emissions at Nigeria LNG Plant

    Nigeria LNG has selected Siemens Energy to provide a cryogenic boil-off gas compression train for its Bonny Island plant. The solution will play a key role in providing additional BOG handling capability and spares for the existing system. The new BOG compression train will be driven by a high-efficiency electric motor and includes two Siemens Energy centrifugal compressors.

    Located in Finima, Nigeria, the Bonny Island plant has been in operation since 1999. Siemens’ partnership with NLNG and the Bonny Island project can be traced back over two decades when the plant was first commissioned.

    The order further establishes Siemens Energy’s leading role in LNG boil-off gas compression. The company has a fleet of cryogenic BOG compressors that have accumulated more than 4.2 million hours in service.
    “Because of current restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, all discussions between Siemens Energy and NLNG were conducted remotely via virtual meetings,” said Matthew Russell, Head of LNG Industrial Applications Products for Siemens Energy. “In the end, proactive planning, perseverance, and the long-standing relationship between the companies facilitated seamless communication and smooth negotiations virtually.”

    Manufacturing, testing, and packaging of the compression train will take place in Duisburg, Germany, with a Free on Board delivery slated for Q4 of 2021.

    Bechtel Wins Lead Role on Goldboro LNG Plant in Nova Scotia

    Canada’s Pieridae Energy has picked US engineering giant Bechtel to help it get the liquified natural gas facility it is planning in the eastern Canadian province of Nova Scotia off the ground. Founded in 2011, Calgary-based natural gas explorer Pieridae is planning the Goldboro LNG facility 250km northeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia to produce LNG for sale to Europe and other markets. Bechtel with initiate a detailed review of the scope and design of the facility and develop a comprehensive engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning execution plan by 31 March next year. It will also deliver a final lump sum, turnkey EPCC contract price proposal by 31 May 2021.

    The engineering group will also conduct talks with the Mi’kmaq First Nations people about their participation in the construction of a large-scale work camp at the site.
