    Breda, the Netherlands / Ghent, Belgium – argenx (Euronext & Nasdaq: ARGX), a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing a deep pipeline of differentiated antibody-based therapies for the treatment of severe autoimmune diseases and cancer, today announced the receipt of a development milestone payment from Janssen and the presentation of updated data from the Phase 1 dose escalation trial of cusatuzumab in combination with azacytidine for the treatment of newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) at the 61st American Society of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting.

    argenx will receive the first development milestone payment of $25 million from its global collaboration and license agreement with Cilag GmbH International, an affiliate of the Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson. The milestone payment was triggered by the achievement of a prespecified enrollment threshold in the first trial to start under the collaboration. This dose-confirming Phase 2 pivotal CULMINATE trial of cusatuzumab is being conducted in combination with azacytidine for the treatment of newly diagnosed elderly patients with AML who are unfit for intensive chemotherapy.

    “This milestone payment marks the progress made across our global collaboration with Janssen. Two trials are now underway in newly diagnosed populations with more trials expected to intiate next year in different AML settings and subpopulations. We continue to believe in the potential of the CD70/CD27 axis as a novel approach within the AML treatment landscape. The data update today further support the use of cusatuzumab in combination to treat this vulnerable patient population,” commented Tim Van Hauwermeiren, Chief Executive Officer of argenx.

    Key Highlights from ASH

    Adrian Ochsenbein, M.D. from the University of Bern presented translational data in support of the dual modes of action of cusatuzumab, including the blocking of CD70/CD27 signaling to stop proliferation of leukemic stem cells and cell killing via Fc-dependent, complement-dependent cytotoxicity and enhanced antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) via POTELLIGENT® technology. Dr. Ochsenbein also showed updated data as of the new cut-off date of February 2019 from the Phase 1 dose escalation trial of cusatuzumab in combination with azacytidine in 12 newly diagnosed elderly patients with AML who are unfit for intensive chemotherapy.

    100% of patients achieved a response including eight with a complete response (CR), two with a complete response with incomplete hematologic recovery (CRi), and two with a partial response (PR); 83% of patients achieved either a CR or CRi
    Of the nine CR/CRi patients evaluable for minimal residual disease (MRD) negativity, four achieved MRD negativity using a threshold of 10-3 which is consistent with the previous data cut-off in October 2018
    Four patients have remained in the study for at least 12 months
    Three patients from the study have been re-classified with risk category based on new mutation information or a reassessment of existing mutation information
    Cusatuzumab continued to be well-tolerated in patients with AML across the different doses
    In addition to the CULMINATE trial in the newly diagnosed unfit AML population, cusatuzumab is also being evaluated in a Phase 1b platform study to explore combinations with standard AML therapies with the first trial exploring combinations of venetoclax, cusatuzumab and azacytidine.

    Ik lees het zo verbeter me maar als het niet zo is. De kanker is niet meer waarneembaar in het lichaam of het terug komt op termijn dat laten ze in het midden? Ik denk dat daar nog (lange) vervolgonderzoeken voor nodig zijn die vele jaren gaan duren.

    Zoals ik het begrijp is deze vorm van kanker goed te behandelen en is het een vorm van een chronische ziekte geworden.

    Ik ben benieuwd of dit middel ook tegen andere vormen van kanker ingezet kan worden?

    (ABM FN) Argenx heeft een eerste mijlpaalbetaling ontvangen van samenwerkingspartner Janssen vanwege de vooruitgang die is geboekt in het onderzoek naar een nieuw medicijn tegen acute myeloïde leukemie. Dit meldde het Gentse concern zaterdagavond.

    Het gaat om een mijlpaalbetaling van 25 miljoen dollar. Dit omdat Argenx voldoende geschikte kandidaten wist te verzamelen in de Fase 2 onderzoeksstudie CULMINATE.

    Een jaar geleden sloot Argenx de licentiedeal met het onderdeel van Johnson & Johnson, dat in totaal 300 miljoen dollar vooruit betaalt. Dit kan oplopen tot in totaal 1,6 miljard dollar.

    Argenx analyst commentary at Stifel Argenx price target raised to $170 from $154 at Stifel. Stifel analyst Derek Archila raised his price target for Argenx to $170 from $154 and reiterates a Buy rating on the shares after attending the company's key onion leader event last week. Argenx highlighted strong biological rationale for developing efgartigimod in chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, Archila tells investors in a research note. He believes the company's Phase 2/3 study design not only allows for "rapid de-risking" of efgartigimod in this indication, but also enriches the study increasing its probability of success.

Piper Jaffray analyst Edward Tenthoff said Argenx (ARGX) "continues to impress" with the Phase I data on cusatuzumab in combination with azacitidine in newly diagnosed AML patients presented at the ASH meeting this weekend. Argenx has received the first $25M milestone of up to $1.3B it is eligible for under Janssen (JNJ) licensing agreement, noted Tenthoff, who added that argenx retains a 50/50 U.S. profit share on the drug. He reiterated his Overweight rating and $177 price target on Argenx shares following the medical meeting.

    Argenx krijgt opnieuw geld van Janssen Pharma

    De Amerikaanse farmareus Johnson & Johnson stapte vorig jaar in Argenx' onderzoek naar bloedkanker.

    De farmagroep betaalt het Gentse biotechbedrijf 25 miljoen euro omdat het vooruitgang heeft geboekt in zijn onderzoek naar een nieuw kankermedicijn.

    Argenx ontwikkelt een experimenteel middel tegen acute myeloïde leukemie (AML), een agressieve vorm van bloedkanker. AML is een 'weesziekte', een zeldzame ziekte waar weinig patiënten aan lijden. De Amerikaanse farmagigant Johnson & Johnson besloot vorig jaar via zijn Belgische dochter Janssen Pharma mee in dat kankeronderzoek te stappen, voor 300 miljoen dollar. Dat bedrag kan oplopen tot 1,6 miljard dollar als bepaalde mijlpalen in het onderzoek worden behaald.

    Dat blijkt nu het geval. Argenx laat in een persbericht weten dat het 25 miljoen dollar ontvangt omdat het voldoende geschikte kandidaten heeft weten te verzamelen voor een nieuwe studie in fase 2 (de voorlaatste etappe om te bepalen of een medicijn al dan niet naar de markt kan).

    Begin vorige maand haalde Argenx nog ruim een half miljard dollar op in een nieuwe kapitaalronde. Daardoor beschikt de groep nu over een cashbuffer van meer dan 1,4 miljard dollar.
