    Orstead’s Horns Rev 2 Offshore Wind Farm Turns Ten

    Located far from the Danish coast and in an area of the North Sea with high waves, the Horns Rev 2 offshore wind farm, the world’s largest of its kind at the time, has been covering the annual power consumption of around 200,000 Danish households with renewable energy for the past decade. When HRH The Crown Prince pressed the red button on 17 September 2009 and officially inaugurated the Horns Rev 2 offshore wind farm, it’s unlikely that many could have imagined how quickly offshore wind power would transform from a marginal niche industry into a global energy technology which now supplies energy to millions of people on three continents.

    At the inauguration, Horns Rev 2 was the world’s largest offshore wind farm, but at the same time also the first offshore wind farm located that far from shore and in waters with such high waves. Already from the outset, great focus was therefore on quality and logistics in the design of the wind farm. Therefore, the 91 wind turbines are placed in a fan formation to better utilise the wind, and the foundation is constructed of both steel and concrete, so it’s better equipped to withstand the extreme conditions at sea. Furthermore, an accommodation platform was installed in connection with an offshore wind farm for the first time in history.

    As Horns Rev 2 is located in the North Sea at a distance of 60 kilometres from the Danish Port of Esbjerg, an accommodation platform was installed for the first time ever in connection with an offshore wind farm.

    Actually, Orsted is currently commissioning the offshore wind farm Hornsea 1 in the North Sea approximately 120 kilometres off the Yorkshire coast in the UK. Here, each wind turbine has a capacity three times that of a wind turbine at Horns Rev 2, and the wind farm will have a total capacity of 1,218MW, making Hornsea 1 the largest offshore wind farm in the world once it’s ready for production at the end of 2019.

    Orsted Selects Oyster Creek for Onshore Component of its Wind Farm

    Danish power company Ocean Wind LLC, which owns Orsted, has decided to bring offshore wind power to the shut down Oyster Creek nuclear plant in Forked River, Lacey Township. Orsted won approval from the state Board of Public Utilities to build a 1,100 megawatt, USD 1.6 billion offshore wind facility close to 15 miles away from the coast of Atlantic City. The wind farm has both an offshore and an onshore component. Orsted was choosing among Atlantic City, Ocean City and Ocean County as the location for the substation on land.

    In June, Ocean Wind LLC proposed to mitigate the costs of transmission system upgrades through the use of capacity interconnection rights. Last Wednesday, the Board of Public Utilities said Ocean Wind’s procurement of the Oyster Creek capacity interconnection rights is in the best interest of the state’s ratepayers.

    The 1,100-megawatt offshore wind project is expected to power roughly 500,000 homes in the state and generate USD 1.17 billion in economic benefits in addition to creating an estimated 15,000 jobs over the project’s life. Construction is planned to start in the early 2020s, with the wind farm operational in 2024.

    Ørsted kiest voor de gigantische Haliade-X 12 MW, van GE, de krachtigste offshore windturbine ter wereld tot nu toe.

    100 van deze windturbines zullen gebruikt worden voor de twee projecten Skipjack en Ocean Wind van Ørsted, gelegen buiten Maryland en New Jersey. (samen 1.2 MW)

    Indien de molens van Vestas of Siemen/Gam gebruikt werden, waren er 150 molens nodig….

    In Europa veelal onbekend, maar niet in de USA….

    Ørsted staat op de zevende plaats op de HBR-lijst (Harvard Business Review) die 'de top 20 bedrijfstransformaties van het afgelopen decennium' wordt genoemd: het is het enige energiebedrijf in de lijst en het enige Europese bedrijf in de top tien.

    Andere bedrijven in deze top 20: Amazon, Microsoft, Netflix, Alibaba...en Philips (Health) staat op 20...

    Ja, mooi gezegd, maar ik zie ook een bericht van anderhalf jaar terug dat Orsted honderden turbines moet gaan repareren. Misschien dat ze daar een half jaar geleden aan begonnen zijn?

    Dit klinkt wel goed en zo gaat het wel vaker. Een aandeel kan dalen op goede cijfers, aleen omdat er meer verwacht werd.

    Ørsted bouwt de eerste grootschalige opslagfaciliteiten voor zon-energie en batterijen.

    Het Permian Energy Center van het project wordt gebouwd in Texas, VS, en omvat een 420 megawatt zon-energiecentrale en een 40 megawatt batterij-opslagfaciliteit op een terrein van 1500 hectare.

    Orsted gaat nog meer investeren in de productie van groene waterstof, met zijn offshore windmolens.

    Ook de Deense regering, voorziet hiervoor 8.7 miljoen € extra, voor nieuwe waterstof /offshore onderzoeken en 10 miljoen € voor nieuw groen openbaar vervoer

    Denemarken haalde vorig jaar bijna de helft van zijn elektriciteitsverbruik uit windenergie, een nieuw record gestimuleerd door steile kostenbesparingen en verbeterde offshore-technologie.

    Wind vertegenwoordigde 47% van het stroomverbruik van Denemarken in 2019, zei de netbeheerder van het land, donderdag, met vermelding van voorlopige gegevens, een stijging van 41% in 2018 en een top-record van 43% in 2017.

    Strategische leveranciers van Ørsted moeten ook Co² neutraal produceren en transporteren tegen 2040.

    In zijn leveranciersbetrokkenheidsprogramma zal Ørsted zijn strategische leveranciers vragen om:

    • onthullen hun eigen uitstoot en stellen wetenschappelijk onderbouwde CO2-reductiedoelstellingen vast
    • gebruik 100% hernieuwbare elektriciteit bij de productie van windturbines, funderingen, kabels, onderstations en componenten
    • hun huidige vloot optimaliseren en een routekaart ontwikkelen om schepen met duurzame energie van stroom te voorzien.
