    TOKIO (AFN) - De Japanse aandelenbeurs is maandag lager gesloten. Beleggers namen wat gas terug op de laatste handelsdag van de positieve beursmaand september. Berichten over een mogelijk verbod op noteringen van Chinese bedrijven op Amerikaanse aandelenbeurzen zorgden daarbij voor enige terughoudendheid. De koersverliezen bleven beperkt dankzij beter dan verwachte Chinese industriecijfers.

    De toonaangevende Nikkei in Tokio eindigde uiteindelijk 0,6 procent in de min op 21.755,84 punten. De hoofdindex won afgelopen maand ruim 5 procent en kende daarmee de beste beursmaand sinds september 2018. Op macro-economisch vlak bleek dat de Japanse industriële productie in augustus sterker dan verwacht is afgenomen.

    Bij de bedrijven zette Kansai Electric Power de daling voort met een verlies van 8 procent. Het aandeel zakte vrijdag al bijna 6 procent nadat de president van het elektriciteitsbedrijf liet weten dat hij en andere bestuurders in de afgelopen zeven jaar betalingen en giften hebben ontvangen van een persoon buiten het bedrijf.

    Groei Chinese industrie

    De beurs in Shanghai noteerde tussentijds 0,1 procent lager. Uit cijfers van onderzoeksbureaus Markit en Caixin bleek dat de omvangrijke Chinese industrie in september sterker is gegroeid dan verwacht. Een vergelijkbare graadmeter van de Chinese overheid voor de industrie viel ook beter uit dan voorzien, maar toonde nog wel een lichte krimp voor de industrie in september.

    De Hang Seng-index in Hongkong steeg 0,5 procent. Budweiser Brewing Company APAC, de Aziatische dochter van biergigant AB InBev, kende een positief beursdebuut in Hongkong en steeg 3,9 procent. In Seoul won de Kospi 0,6 procent en de All Ordinaries in Sydney ging 0,4 procent omlaag.

    Japans ondernemersvertrouwen zwakker

    TOKIO (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Het vertrouwen van grote Japanse industriebedrijven in de economie is verder afgezwakt. Dat blijkt uit de Tankan-index van de Japanse centrale bank die dinsdag naar buiten werd gebracht en uitkwam op het laagste niveau in meer dan zes jaar.

    De index die het vertrouwen weergeeft, daalde in september naar 5 van 7 een maand eerder. Economen rekenden op een indexpeil van 1.

    Volgens het onderzoek, dat elk kwartaal wordt gehouden, wegen het handelsconflict tussen de Verenigde Staten en China en een afzwakkende wereldwijde economische groei zwaar.

    TOKIO (AFN) - De aandelenbeurs in Japan is dinsdag met winst begonnen aan de nieuwe beursmaand. De grote Japanse exportbedrijven waren in trek door de hernieuwde hoop op een handelsdeal tussen de Verenigde Staten en China. Beleggers verwerkten verder de zogenoemde Tankan-index van de Japanse centrale bank. De index die het vertrouwen meet van grote Japanse industriebedrijven zwakte in september verder af tot het laagste niveau in meer dan zes jaar. De daling was wel minder dan gevreesd.

    De Nikkei in Tokio sloot uiteindelijk 0,6 procent hoger op 21.885,24 punten. Automaker Honda en bandenfabrikant Bridgestone, die veel omzet halen uit het buitenland, stegen 2,5 procent en 2,2 procent. Ook de Japanse toeleveranciers van de Amerikaanse technologiereus Apple zaten in de lift. Analisten van JPMorgan kwamen met een positief rapport over Apple dankzij beter dan verwachte verkopen van de nieuwe iPhones. Murata Manufacturing en TDK dikten 2,8 procent en 2,7 procent aan.

    SoftBank won 1,8 procent na het nieuws dat de megabeursgang van WeWork voorlopig niet doorgaat. The We Company, het moederbedrijf van de verhuurder van gedeelde werkruimtes, heeft formeel een verzoek ingediend om zijn plannen voor een beursdebuut in te trekken. SoftBank, een grote investeerder in WeWork, had veel kritiek op de beursgang en op de inmiddels vertrokken topman en mede-oprichter Adam Neumann.

    Beurzen China gesloten

    De beurzen in China en Hongkong waren gesloten vanwege de viering van de 70e verjaardag van de Volksrepubliek China. In Hongkong geldt een demonstratieverbod. Er wordt in de stad al maanden geprotesteerd tegen de groeiende invloed van Peking op het autonome Hongkong. De beurs in Shanghai blijft een hele week dicht. In Hongkong wordt de handel woensdag weer hervat.

    In Seoul klom de Kospi 0,4 procent. De All Ordinaries in Sydney kreeg er 0,8 procent bij. De Australische centrale bank verlaagde de rente met 25 basispunten tot 0,75 procent om de economie te stimuleren. Dat is het laagste niveau ooit.

    Japanse werkloosheid iets gunstiger dan verwacht

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) De werkloosheid van Japan is in augustus van dit jaar lager uitgevallen dan verwacht. Dit bleek dinsdag uit cijfers van het Japanse bureau voor de statistiek.

    De werkloosheid kwam, net als in juli, uit op 2,2 procent. Economen hadden echter gerekend op een stijging naar 2,3 procent.

    Sterkere krimp Japanse industrie

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) De inkoopmanagersindex voor de industrie in Japan is in september veder gedaald en wijst daarmee nog altijd op krimp. Dit bleek dinsdag uit cijfers van Markit Economics en Jibun Bank.

    De inkoopmanagersindex daalde van 49,3 in augustus naar 48,9 in september. Daarmee noteert de index op de laagste stand sinds februari.

    Een indexstand van meer dan 50 wijst op groei, minder dan 50 betekent krimp.

    Toyota Inks Cooperation with FAW, GAC for Electric Vehicle

    Toyota has cemented the cooperation with two Chinese state owned automaker partners, FAW Group and GAC Group, to jointly research and develop electrified vehicles. According to the framework agreements Toyota respectively signed with two companies, the Japanese and two Chinese automakers will make joint efforts to promote the R&D and popularization of electrified vehicles in the world's largest auto market. Apart from co-launching more hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, all parties will be dedicated to rolling out affordable high-quality all-electric and hydrogen fuel cell models to satisfy Chinese consumers' demands over power diversity. Besides, the step-up cooperation also involves ICV-related projects.

    Under the consolidated partnership, all parties aim to enhance their own and each other's capability in personnel training and operational strength by sharing resources and talents.

    Toyota, the NEV pioneer that launched the world's first mass-produced hybrid model, has so far sold over 14 million electrified vehicles across the world. Now, it still seeks to expand and speed up its NEV deployment, especially in China, the to-date world's largest EV market.

    ROTTERDAM (AFN) - Unilever koopt het huidverzorgingsmerk Lenor Japan, dat aanwezig is in Japan en China. Dat maakte Unilever bekend zonder financiële details over de deal naar buiten te brengen.

    Unilever spreekt van een welkome aanvulling op de portefeuille van huidverzorgings- en schoonheidsmerken van het bedrijf en een opwindende kans voor verkoop van huidverzorging gestoeld op Japanse basis.

    Nissan EV Leaf Help Buildings Cut Energy Costs And Emissions

    A trial using Nissan LEAF electric cars to help power office buildings has proved successful in cutting energy costs and CO2 emissions. The pilot project using Nissan Energy Share technology was launched in December 2018 by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone West Corp., NTT Smile Energy, and Nissan. The project uses solar panels mounted on carports to generate energy that helps power an office building. The batteries in the Nissan LEAF electric vehicles are used to store and discharge energy, along with stationary storage systems. Depending on how much electricity is being generated and consumed at any given time, the EVs and stationary systems are remotely directed to charge or discharge energy. By discharging energy during periods of peak demand in summer, the Nissan LEAF cars contributed to a 14.1 kilowatt-hour total reduction in energy use from the grid over a 30-minute interval. The solar panels accounted for 6.6 kWh of this reduction and the LEAF vehicles accounted for 7.5 kWh.

    The companies plan to conduct their next trial under winter conditions. They will examine the effect of discharging energy from the stationary storage systems and also study how to avoid new peak demand periods that may be caused by people charging their EVs, as electric cars become more widespread.

    NTT Group has committed to EV100, a global initiative bringing together companies that are committed to establishing EV infrastructure and accelerating the transition to electric vehicles. The group plans to fully electrify its car fleet by 2030.

    Nissan has sold more than 430,000 Nissan LEAF vehicles since introducing the 100% electric, zero-emission model in 2010. The company has launched numerous partnerships around the world under its Nissan Energy initiative, aimed at saving energy and reducing emissions by connecting EVs with homes, buildings and electric grids.

    TOKIO (AFN) - De Japanse effectenbeurs is woensdag met verlies geëindigd. Tegenvallende cijfers over de Amerikaanse industrie wakkerden de zorgen aan over de impact van het Amerikaans-Chinese handelsconflict op de groei van de wereldeconomie. Uit Europa kwamen eveneens zwakke industriecijfers.

    De hoofdindex in Tokio, de Nikkei 225, ging 0,5 procent lager de dag uit op 21.778,61 punten. Robotmaker Fanuc en telecomconcern SoftBank, twee zwaargewichten in de index, zakten 2,2 procent en 2,7 procent. Ook andere Japanse exportbedrijven stonden onder druk door de zorgen over een afkoelende wereldeconomie. De fabrikant van industriële robots Yaskawa Electric verloor 4,2 procent. Het Japanse internet- en e-commercebedrijf Rakuten daalde bijna 5 procent.

    In Shanghai is de beurs tot en met maandag 7 oktober gesloten vanwege de viering van de 70e verjaardag van de Volksrepubliek China. In Hongkong werd de handel weer hervat na een vrije dag. De Hang Seng-index noteerde tussentijds 0,3 procent in de min. De Kospi in Seoul verloor 1,8 procent door geopolitieke spanningen. Volgens de Zuid-Koreaanse strijdkrachten heeft buurland Noord-Korea een raket gelanceerd vanaf een onderzeeër. De All Ordinaries in Sydney leverde 1,5 procent in.

    Consumentenvertrouwen Japan gedaald

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Het Japanse consumentenvertrouwen is in september gedaald. Dit bleek woensdag uit cijfers van de Japanse overheid.

    Afgelopen maand daalde de vertrouwensindex ten opzichte van augustus met 1,5 punt naar 35,6 punten.

    De index die het sentiment over het levensonderhoud in het algemeen meet, daalde met 0,9 punt. De index voor inkomensgroei daalde 0,8 punt en die voor de werkgelegenheid daalde met 0,7 punt. De index die de bereidheid meet om duurzame producten te kopen daalde met 3,6 punt.

    Groei Japanse dienstensector vertraagt

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) De bedrijvigheid in de Japanse dienstensector is in september in een lager tempo gegroeid. Dit bleek donderdag uit cijfers van Markit Economics en Jibun Bank.

    De inkoopmanagersindex daalde van 53,3 in augustus naar 52,8 afgelopen maand.

    De industrie bleek eerder deze week harder gekrompen, met een indexstand van 48,9 in september. Een maand eerder was dit nog 49,3.

    Een indexstand groter dan 50 wijst op groei, terwijl minder dan 50 krimp betekent.

    Nikkei fors lager door handelszorgen

    TOKIO (AFN) - De aandelenbeurs in Japan is donderdag fors lager gesloten. Een tegenvallend banenrapport van de Amerikaanse loonstrookverwerker ADP wakkerde de zorgen aan over de impact van het handelsconflict met China op de grootste economie ter wereld. Daarnaast gaat Washington de Europese Unie bestraffen met importheffingen, waarmee een nieuwe handelsstrijd dreigt te ontstaan tussen Europa en de Verenigde Staten.

    De toonaangevende Nikkei in Tokio eindigde met een verlies van 2 procent op 21.341,74 punten. Vooral de Japanse bedrijven die gevoelig zijn voor de handelsperikelen en de economische ontwikkelingen werden van de hand gedaan. De autofabrikanten Toyota en Suzuki zakten 2,5 procent en 4 procent.

    Ook de financiële bedrijven stonden onder druk na de flinke koersverliezen onder Amerikaanse branchegenoten. Verzekeraar T&D Holdings en effectenhuis Daiwa Securities verloren 2,4 procent en 3,4 procent. Tokio Marine leverde 1,8 procent in. Zakenkrant Nikkei meldde dat de Japanse verzekeraar zijn branchegenoot Pure wil overnemen voor omgerekend 3 miljard dollar.

    In Hongkong noteerde de Hang Seng-index tussentijds 0,6 procent lager. De All Ordinaries in Sydney raakte 2,1 procent kwijt onder aanvoering van de Australische banken. In Shanghai is de beurs tot en met volgende week maandag gesloten vanwege de viering van de 70e verjaardag van de Volksrepubliek China. In Zuid-Korea hadden beleggers ook een vrije dag.

    Nissan Teaches Robots to Make Replacement Parts for Cars

    Nissan has developed a new way to use robots to make car parts out of sheet steel, a breakthrough that could make replacement parts for discontinued models more widely available for customers. Nissan hopes to commercialize the proprietary technique, known as dual-sided dieless forming. The technique involves two synchronized robots working from opposite sides of a steel sheet, using diamond-coated tools to gradually shape the steel.

    Thanks to its flexible production, short lead times and minimal upfront costs, the new technique could make it commercially viable to produce and sell a wide variety of after-service and replacement parts in small volumes for cars that Nissan no longer makes. This was previously not possible due to the high upfront costs and long lead times to develop and make dies for stamped parts. Until now, dual-sided dieless forming had been considered too difficult to commercialize. This was due to the complexity of programming two robots to operate synchronously while ensuring consistent quality. Existing techniques have primarily relied on single-sided forming, which limits the complexity of shapes that can be created. By placing robots and tools on opposite sides of a steel sheet, they can create more difficult and detailed shapes. The new technique was made possible thanks to the production engineering expertise at Nissan’s Production Engineering Research and Development Center, along with advancements in materials technology by Nissan’s Research Division.

    It represents three major breakthroughs

    The development of advanced programs capable of controlling both robots with a high degree of dimensional accuracy, enabling the formation of detailed convex and concave shapes

    The application of a mirrored diamond coating to tools, reducing friction while eliminating the need for lubrication. This has numerous benefits, including consistency of surface quality and low-cost, environmentally friendly operation

    The generation of optimized pathfinding logic for robots, drawing on the ample expertise and press-forming simulation techniques ordinarily used by Nissan’s production engineering teams. This enabled Nissan to achieve high quality results early in the development process.

    Nissan plans to continue pursuing advancements in mass production while also dedicating R&D resources to honing its flexible low-volume production techniques.

    Hitachi's Elevator Win Guinness World Records Award

    Hitachi Ltd announced that its elevator, which has been delivered to Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre, a skyscraper complex building in Guangzhou, People's Republic of China received a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title as the world's fastest elevator on September 10 and the presentation ceremony of the official certificate was held today. This elevator travels with a rated speed of 1,260 m/min and connects the ground floor to the hotel lobby on the 95th floor in approx. 42sec, over a distance of 440 m.

    In 1968, Hitachi developed an elevator with the speed of 300 m/min, the fastest in Japan at that time, and delivered it to Kasumigaseki Building, Japan's first skyscraper. Hitachi has continued to provide innovative products and services that support the advancement of urbanization. In China, Hitachi has operated its elevators and escalators business since 1980s. In 1995, it founded Hitachi Elevator (China) Co Ltd , a manufacturing, sales and service company for elevators and escalators. China's new elevators and escalators market has become the world's largest, where demand exceeds 500,000 units, which accounts for more than 50% of global demand. Hitachi Elevator China achieved the top share in the number of new elevators and escalators units ordered in China in 2018.

    In 2012, working with Hitachi Building Systems Co Ltd and Hitachi Elevator China, Hitachi received an order for 151 elevators and escalators for Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre, and proceeded with the deliveries sequentially. Guangzhou CTF Finance Centre, one of the world class skyscraper complex buildings that is 530 m tall, constructed in Zhujiang New Town Central Business District, Guangzhou, China. The building consists of offices, serviced apartments, hotels and commercial facilities. On September 10, Rosewood Guangzhou, the hotel on 93F to 108F, started operation. In response to the beginning of operation of the elevator with the speed of 1,260 m/min connecting the first floor on the ground and the hotel lobby on 95F, it received a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title as the world's fastest elevator.

    Nippon Steel Kimitsu Repair Work Likely to be Finished by December End

    Reuters quoted Japan’s biggest steelmaker Nippon Steel Corp as saying that one of the two steelmaking plants at its Kimitsu Steel Works will be shut until the end of December, to repair a chimney that collapsed in a typhoon last month. The plant where work was suspended is located in Japan’s prefecture of Chiba east of Tokyo, the capital, and produces about 150,000 tonnes of semi-finished products each month to make wire rods used in automobiles, among other applications. A company spokesman said that “We plan to complete repair work by the end of December and resume operations in January.”

    The typhoon in early September was one of the strongest to hit eastern Japan in recent years, killing one woman and bringing record-breaking winds and stinging rain that damaged buildings and disrupted transport.

    Nippon Steel & Nippon Steel Nisshin Co to Implement Merger

    Nippon Steel Corporation and Nippon Steel Nisshin Co Ltd resolved, at their meeting of the Board of Directors, to implement a merger between NSC and its wholly owned subsidiary NSN, in which NSC will be the surviving company and NSN will be the absorbed company, effective as of April 1, 2020. NSC made NSN into its subsidiary in March 2017, and has strived to maximize the effects of synergies by mutually utilizing management resources of both companies, while making the most of the strengths of each company, and has consistently achieved results in areas such as sales alliances, mutually flexible production, and developments of best practices in technology. In January 2019, NSC converted NSN into its wholly owned subsidiary, thereby establishing a structure oriented toward integrated operations that allow for swifter and more flexible responses in implementing intercompany measures, including those for pursuit of an optimized production system and business restructuring of group companies, in order to realize even greater synergies.

    In the current fiscal year, however, the environment surrounding the steel making industry is rapidly deteriorating. In addition to a significant deterioration in NSC’s own business conditions, NSN, which is in the same industry as NSC (blast furnace steelmaking and steel sheet business), is likewise experiencing very harsh business conditions. In order to overcome this situation, it is necessary for the Nippon Steel Group to proceed with the urgent consideration and implementation of measures to pursue even greater total optimization.

    Furthermore, in the context of a series of accidents and emergencies that have occurred at NSN since last year, an even greater level of integrated operations with NSC is becoming necessary from the perspectives of maintaining customer relationships and securing stable supply of products. Taking these circumstances into account, after consideration by both companies, the decision has been made to merge, forming an organizational structure for agile response aimed at strengthening competitiveness.
