    Daimler AG and BMW Group to jointly develop next generation automated driving tech

    The Daimler AG and BMW Group are to join forces on automated driving. Initially, the focus will be on advancing the development of next-generation technologies for driver assistance systems, automated driving on highways and parking features (up to SAE Level 4). The two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly develop this technology, which is key for future mobility. The Daimler AG and BMW Group view their partnership as a long-term, strategic cooperation and aim to make next-level technologies widely available by the middle of the coming decade.

    Mr Ola Källenius, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development said that “Autonomous driving is one of the most revolutionary trends for us at the moment, and the entire Daimler Group is working very hard on it. As always at Daimler, our top priority is safety. Instead of individual, stand-alone solutions, we want to develop a reliable overall system that offers noticeable added-value for customers. Working with the right partners, we want to make significant advances in enhancing the performance of this technology and bring it safely on the road.”

    Mr Klaus Fröhlich, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Development said that “As we continue to pursue our strategy, we are combining the expertise of two technology leaders. At the BMW Group, long-term partnerships within a flexible, scalable, non-exclusive platform are fundamental to advancing the industrialisation of autonomous driving. Combining the key expertise of our two companies will boost our innovative strength and speed up the spread of this technology.”

    The planned cooperation offers the Daimler AG and BMW Group a number of obvious advantages: the skills and experience of the individual partners and a scalable architecture will speed up and streamline the development of future technology generations. Besides the synergies, new technologies will be faster to market, with shorter innovation cycles. For both companies, the safety of vehicle occupants and other road users is of the utmost importance and a key reason for making the reliability of systems a key criterion for the collaboration. The two partners continue to pursue their goal of being the pace-setter in development.

    New supervisory boards of Mercedes-Benz AG and Daimler Truck AG

    The Supervisory Board and the Board of Management of Daimler AG have agreed on the future composition of the boards of Mercedes-Benz AG and Daimler Truck AG. Both Daimler boards plan to appoint Ola Källenius as future Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz AG. In this function, he will be responsible for the worldwide activities of the Cars & Vans divisions. In addition, as resolved by the Supervisory Board on 26 September 2018, he is to become Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG as the parent company in dual function. Furthermore, the Supervisory Board and the Board of Management of Daimler AG also plan to appoint Martin Daum as future Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler Truck AG. He will also in future be a member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, responsible for the Daimler Trucks & Buses divisions. Daimler Truck AG shall in future be responsible for the global trucks and buses business.

    Opening of Mercedes-Benz Cars passenger car plant in Russia

    Mercedes-Benz Cars is starting production for the local market in the new passenger car plant Moscovia with the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan. SUV models will follow the E-Class. Mercedes-Benz Cars is investing more than 250 million euros in the plant in the Moscow region. Over 1,000 employees will work in production and administration. The Moscovia plant is characterized by a flexible and green production and will use modern industry 4.0 technologies.

    At the opening Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Peter Altmaier, German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, Industry and Trade Minister of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov, Andrej Vorobjov, Governor of the Moscow region, as well as Markus Schäfer, Member of the Divisional Board of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Production and Supply Chain, Jan Madeja, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz RUS AO and Axel Bense CEO Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing RUS, participated.

    In 2017 Mercedes-Benz Cars laid the foundation stone for the new plant, which has been constructed over a period of less than two years, in the Moscow region. It is located around 40 kilometres northwest of the Russian capital Moscow in the Esipovo industrial estate across an area of 85 hectares. The production company Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing RUS (MBMR) has responsibility for the new passenger car production in Russia and was created specifically for this purpose. The plant is part of the global production network with more than 30 locations worldwide.

    Mercedes-Benz Cars lays foundation for a battery factory at the Untertürkheim site

    With the symbolic foundation laying ceremony for the first battery factory, the Mercedes-Benz Untertürkheim plant is advancing its transformation into a high-tech location for electric mobility. The new battery factory at the Brühl sub-plant is an important component in the global battery production network within the production network of Mercedes-Benz Cars comprising a total of nine battery factories at seven locations on three continents. By the end of the decade, Mercedes-Benz Cars will produce high-efficiency traction batteries for future Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles of the EQ product and technology brand on 12,000 m2 in a newly erected and carbon-neutral battery factory at the Brühl sub-plant near Stuttgart, the state capital of Baden-Württemberg, Germany.

    Mr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, said “The laying of the foundation for the battery factory at the Mercedes-Benz Untertürkheim plant is a good sign for the sustainability of the mobility and for the economy – and thus also for the people in the region. The battery factory at the Brühl sub-plant stands for our promise to make both our cars as well as their production even greener. In future, we will assemble the heart of the electric car, the battery, here ourselves.”

    The battery is a key component of electric mobility and an integral part of the vehicle architecture. The intelligence of the battery lies in a total package of hardware and software. Development, production and integration of complex battery systems are among the core competencies of Mercedes-Benz Cars.

    Mercedes-Benz Cars is investing more than one billion euros in a global battery production network within the worldwide Mercedes-Benz Cars production network. The battery production network currently comprises nine factories at seven locations on three continents. Local battery production is a major success factor in the electric initiative of Mercedes-Benz Cars, and the crucial component when it comes to meeting the worldwide demand for electric vehicles flexibly and efficiently. The global battery production network ensures the competitiveness of Mercedes-Benz Cars and puts the particular locations on a competitive footing. Daimler purchases the battery cells on the world market. The blocks of cells are assembled into an installation-ready overall battery system in the battery factories – including housing, control unit as well as functional testing.

    Mercedes-Benz sells more than 560,000 vehicles worldwide in Q1 2019

    Mercedes-Benz closed the first quarter of 2019 with 560,873 passenger cars sold worldwide (-5.6%). For the third year in a row, sales in the first quarter were therefore well over 550,000 units. In March, 227,644 vehicles with the three-pointed star were delivered to customers all over the world (-4.1%). The first three months of the year featured important model changes in the highest-volume SUV and compact-car segments. The company expects an increasing vehicle availability in the next months and therefore global sales to increase slightly overall in 2019. Since the beginning of the year, Mercedes-Benz has maintained its market leadership in the premium segment in Germany, UK, France, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Portugal, Poland, Denmark, South Korea, Australia, Canada, Brazil and other markets.

    Mr Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing and Sales said that “We are delighted with the best quarter ever for Mercedes-Benz in China and the successful market launch of the new B-Class in Europe. The first three months of the year were challenging worldwide due to the ongoing model changes for SUVs and compact cars. In the coming months, further highlights of our current model offensive at Mercedes-Benz will be launched; the CLA Coupé, for example, will be available in our showrooms in May. From the middle of the year, the ungraded generation of our very popular Midsize SUVs GLC and GLC Coupé will then be available at our dealerships.”

    Mercedes-Benz unit sales by region and market
    In Europe, Mercedes-Benz sold 103,155 vehicles in March (-5.6%) and as per March the sales amounted to 224,678 (-5.6%). The discontinuation of the CLA and the GLE due to the model change had an impact on unit sales in many European markets. In Germany, the region’s core market, sales of 70.542 units were achieved in the first quarter (-5.0%). In the United Kingdom, first quarter sales increased by 1.1%, while the best-ever first-quarter unit sales were achieved in France, Poland and in Denmark.

    In the Asia-Pacific region, Mercedes-Benz delivered 87,509 cars to customers last month (-1.6%). Unit sales reached a new record in China, the region’s core market: 61,913 customers were delighted to receive their new Mercedes-Benz car (+5.9%). Mercedes-Benz concluded the first three months of the year, as the best quarter ever in China (+2.6%) with sales of 174,343 units. The long-wheelbase versions of the C-Class and E-Class Saloon, which are popular in the Chinese market, set new records in both March and the first quarter. Unit sales in Malaysia increased to a new all-time high for the month of March (+40.3%).

    Mercedes-Benz sold in total 32,286 vehicles in the NAFTA region in March (-5.0%). In the core market, the United States, a total of 27,004 customers were delighted to receive their new model with the three-pointed star last month (-4.9%). At the end of the first quarter, deliveries in the USA amounted to 71,171 units (-9.3%). In Mexico sales increased by 1.1% in March.

    STUTTGART (AFN/RTR/BLOOMBERG) - Het Duitse autoconcern Daimler heeft in het eerste kwartaal fors minder winst in de boeken gezet. De autobouwer kampte met een krimp in de verkopen van Mercedes-Benz en inkoop van duurdere materialen. Daimler handhaaft vooralsnog zijn eerder uitgesproken verwachtingen voor het lopende jaar.

    De brutowinst (ebit) daalde tot 2,8 miljard euro, een afname van bijna 18 procent ten opzichte van een jaar eerder. Bij de personenauto's, waar automerk Mercedes-Benz onder valt, werd de daling in verkopen mede veroorzaakt door minder vraag vanuit China, de grootste markt voor het bedrijf. Bij de vrachtwagens stegen de kosten gestuwd door duurdere grondstofprijzen en waren er knelpunten in het productieproces. De omzet bleef nagenoeg gelijk.

    Daimler geeft toe dat er veel moet gebeuren wil het de verwachtingen voor dit jaar waarmaken. De autobouwer verwacht nog wel dat de brutowinst, omzet en verkopen van voertuigen in 2019 ,,licht stijgen''.

    Daimler affirms 2019 targets for unit sales, revenue and earnings

    Daimler AG started the year in a challenging economic environment with stable revenue and moderate earnings in the first quarter. Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, said that “We cannot and will not be satisfied with this, as expected, moderate start to the year. We now have to work hard to achieve our targets for 2019. Based on our sales planning and the countermeasures we have already initiated, we are confident that we will achieve those targets. In the first few months of this year, we have consistently implemented further elements of our strategy and initiated several important projects: our cooperation at smart with Geely, the development of a joint platform for autonomous driving, and the merger of the mobility services with those of the BMW Group.”

    The Group’s total unit sales decreased by 4% to 773,800 passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Revenue amounted to EUR 39.7 billion (Q1 2018: EUR 39.8 billion). Also adjusted for positive exchange-rate changes, revenue remained at the prior-year level. The Daimler Group achieved first-quarter EBIT of EUR 2,802 million, well below the prior-year figure of EUR 3,335 million. Net profit weakened only slightly to EUR 2,149 million (Q1 2018: EUR 2,354 million). Net profit attributable to the shareholders of Daimler AG amounted to EUR 2,095 million (Q1 2018: EUR 2,273 million), leading to a decline in earnings per share to EUR 1.96 (Q1 2018: EUR 2.12).

    Mercedes-Benz announced Change of management

    Ms Katrin Adt, currently Head of the product unit smart, will, as of 1 July 2019, take over management of the newly created unit Mercedes-Benz Cars Own Retail Europe (Passenger Cars and Vans). The German and European section of the Group’s own sales network (Own Retail) is being amalgamated. The aim is to pool expertise throughout Europe and thus put Own Retail on an even firmer footing for the future. In her new role Adt will be reporting to Ms Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales, and will take on the duties of Ms Sabine Kohleisen (55), who will assume leadership of the Mercedes-Benz Cars Personnel unit from July 2019. Subject to the approval of the Annual Meeting on 22 May 2019 and the approval of the newly elected supervisory board of Mercedes-Benz AG in September 2019, Kohleisen will be appointed to the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz AG.

    Ms Britta Seeger said that “With great enthusiasm Katrin Adt has repeatedly restructured organisations for people. She will therefore seamlessly be able to follow on from the outstanding work carried out by her predecessor and bring together our German and European Own Retail to an even greater extent in the future in her new role. Sabine Kohleisen has made a key contribution towards our success on the German market in Own Retail. I am certain that she will be just as successful in her new role”, Seeger adds.

    Ms Katrin Adt started at DaimlerChrysler Belgium Luxembourg in Brussels in 1999. Following positions in Belgium, Stuttgart and as the Head of the Mercedes-Benz Sales Company in Luxembourg she joined a personnel consultancy in 2013. A year later she returned to Daimler and became responsible for the development of management and also for HR Services in the Group’s HR division. In this role she developed and managed the transformation initiative “Leadership 2020”. After taking on the product unit smart in autumn 2018, her focus was on shaping a long-term future for the brand, which was secured by founding a joint venture with Geely in China.

    Ms Sabine Kohleisen began working at the Mercedes-Benz Stuttgart sales and service outlet as a passenger car salesperson in 1990. Following various positions in the Mercedes-Benz Marketing Academy she made a key contribution towards setting up the DaimlerChrysler Corporate University. Further tasks followed at Mercedes-Benz Cars, before she took over worldwide personnel management for top sales executives in 2010. From 2014 to 2018 Sabine Kohleisen managed the Supervisory Board and Board of Management Office at Daimler AG. Since April 2018, she has been responsible for the proprietary dealer network (Mercedes-Benz sales and service outlets) in Germany.

    Mr Karl Schregle will take over management of Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales Europe from May 2019. He succeeds Marcus Breitschwerdt, who, as of 1 May 2019, will take over management of Mercedes-Benz Vans. Ms Britta Seeger said that “Marcus Breitschwerdt has performed outstanding work for our sales in the Europe region. I thank him for his excellent performance in the past years. Karl Schregle is a very experienced colleague and an acknowledged sales expert, who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment in our Passenger Car division for many years. He demonstrated his abilities not only in Sales and Marketing, but also in the Finance and Controlling unit. I welcome him to my team very warmly and wish him lots of success in carrying out his new tasks.”

    Mercedes-Benz sells about 182,000 vehicles worldwide in April

    Mercedes-Benz delivered 181,936 cars in April (-5.5%) and a total of 742,809 in the first four months of the year (-5.6%). The ongoing sales success of the new A-Class resulted in worldwide growth for the compact cars in April (+6.0%). A contribution to this sales success came from the new A-Class Saloon, a further model complementing the compact-car entry into the world of premium saloon cars from Mercedes-Benz. Unit sales of SUVs were still dampened in April by the model changes. Mercedes-Benz Cars expects especially for the new SUV models increasing vehicle availability in the coming months and therefore additional growth opportunities in a highly competitive market environment. Since the beginning of the year, Mercedes-Benz has maintained its market leadership in the premium segment in Germany, UK, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Portugal, Poland, Denmark, Czech Republic, Australia and Canada.

    In Europe, 71,263 cars with the three-pointed star were delivered last month (-4.8%). In Germany, the region’s core market, sales of 24,970 units in April were slightly below the high prior-year level (-1.3%). In the major markets of France and Russia, unit sales increased in both April and the first four months of the year. In France, Mercedes-Benz actually achieved a new record for January to April (+2.8%).

    In the Asia-Pacific region, Mercedes-Benz sold 79,125 vehicles (-1.4%). In China, the region’s core market, sales continued to grow and reached a new high of 232,050 units in the first four months of the year (+2.2%). Unit sales were at a new record level also in April, with deliveries of 57,707 vehicles (+0.8%). In Singapore and Vietnam, unit sales increased at double-digit rates in the first four months and also reached new record levels.

    A total of 111,668 units were sold in the NAFTA region from January to April (-11.7%). In the region’s core market, the USA, Mercedes-Benz sold a total of 22,949 vehicles with the star last month (-15.7%). Sales in the USA in the first four months totalled 94,120 units (-10.9%).

    New Mercedes-Benz Passenger Cars Comply With Euro 6d-TEMP Standard As A Minimum

    Significantly reduced NOx emissions is a characteristic feature of vehicles which are certified according to the Euro 6d-TEMP standard. All Mercedes-Benz passenger cars that can be ordered in the new car business now meet this requirement. Furthermore, Mercedes-Benz currently has a whole series of vehicles on the market that already comply with the even stricter Euro 6d standard. This will gradually become mandatory as of 01.01.2020.

    The decision made at the start of the decade to develop an entirely new Diesel engine generation is paying dividends. The innovative technologies implemented in the process ensure low NOx emissions. With the changeover to the new engine generation, all new Mercedes-Benz passenger cars available to order now comply with the Euro 6d-TEMP or Euro 6d standards.

    The limit values for NOx in emission tests – for Euro 6d these are also at 80 milligrammes per kilometre also during RDE (Real Driving Emissions) tests – are so-called “not to exceed” limit values that must be complied with during each valid RDE test. This means that a vehicle may also not exceed the limit under the worst conceivable combinations of RDE conditions – for example, with a heavy load, in hilly topography, and in unfavourable temperature and traffic conditions. The limit applies not only to new vehicles, but also to vehicles with more than 100,000 kilometres. Results of real-world tests on the road often stay significantly below the limit of 80 milligrammes per kilometre, which is confirmed by independent measurements.

    The Euro 6d standard is even more demanding due to its smaller permissible measuring tolerances. It will not become mandatory for new models until 01.01.2020, and one year later for other vehicles. Mercedes-Benz started an engine initiative in 2016, which includes the all-new four-cylinder diesel engines (OM 654 and OM 654q) as well as straight-six diesels (OM 656). On this basis, which is associated with investments of around three billion euros, a whole host of Mercedes-Benz diesel models, from the A-Class to the GLS, already comply with the Euro 6d standard today (the current list plus background information on the emissions standards appears on the following pages).

    Mercedes-Benz Delivers More Than 195,000 Vehicles Worldwide In May

    Mercedes-Benz sold 195,690 vehicles worldwide in May (-1.3%). The sales success of the new A-Class and the new CLA Coupé, which was launched in Europe in May, had a positive effect last month. In a highly competitive market environment worldwide, the new compact-car models in particular generated sales momentum in many key markets. Nonetheless, ongoing model changes in the highest-volume SUV segment had a dampening impact on total unit sales in May. Mercedes-Benz sold 938,499 units in the first five months of the year (-4.7%). In May, Mercedes-Benz maintained its market leadership in the premium segment in markets including Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Belgium, Portugal, Denmark, Czech Republic, Finland, South Korea, Japan and Australia.

    This May, deliveries in Europe were above the high level of the prior-year month: 81,762 Mercedes-Benz vehicles were sold in the region (+0.9%). The company with the three-pointed star posted a sales increase in its core market of Germany, where a total of 27,806 cars were delivered to customers in May (+5.9%). In Spain, Mercedes-Benz surpassed its unit sales of the prior-year month with a double-digit growth of 14.6%. Mercedes-Benz was also able to achieve sales growth in the past month also in the markets of the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Poland, Portugal and Hungary.

    In the Asia-Pacific region, 77,694 cars were sold with the star (-2.2%). Deliveries in May in China, the region’s core market, were slightly below the strong prior-year month with a total of 55,589 vehicles handed over to customers (-0.9%). In the first five months of this year, deliveries of 287,639 units were 1.6% higher than in the prior-year period. In Malaysia, unit sales increased at a double-digit rate, while a new record was set for the month of May in South Korea and Vietnam.

    Mercedes-Benz sold 31,933 cars in the NAFTA region last month (-2.1%). In the region’s core market, the United States, the Stuttgart-based company with the star was able to maintain the high level of sales of the previous year and even slightly exceeded it: 27,080 customers were delighted to receive a new Mercedes-Benz automobile (+0.4%). In Mexico, deliveries of Mercedes Benz cars increased to 3.0% compared with May 2018.

    Mercedes And Telefónica Deutschland Establish First 5G Network For Automobile Production

    Together with telecommunications company Telefónica Deutschland and network supplier Eicsson, Mercedes-Benz Cars is putting in place the world’s first 5G mobile network for automobile production in its “Factory 56” in Sindelfingen. As part of an innovation project that extends over an area of more than 20,000 m2, the 5G mobile communications standard is being implemented for the first time into the running production. The experience gained there will be actively incorporated into plans for future implementation in other plants. By putting this milestone in place, the cooperation partners are ensuring that the 5G standard of the future becomes reality for Germany as an industrial base. The 5G network is being installed by telecommunications company Telefónica Deutschland in collaboration with network supplier Ericsson. Once installation and commissioning are completed, the network will be operated by Mercedes-Benz Cars.

    The development of an own infrastructure brings many advantages and plays an important part in the implementation of smart manufacturing for the future. The use of state-of-the-art 5G network technology allows Mercedes-Benz Cars, among other things, to optimise existing production processes in its plant with the help of new features. These include, for example, the data linking or product tracking on the assembly line. With a separate own network, all processes can be optimised and made more robust, and if necessary adapted at short notice to prevailing market requirements. Furthermore, the mobile communications standard links production systems and machines together in an intelligent manner, thereby supporting the efficiency and precision of the production process. A further benefit of using a local 5G network is that sensitive production data do not have to be made available to third parties.

    With the 5G network, the enormous quantities of data required for various test scenarios involving the automobile of the future can be processed very quickly. The 5G mobile communications standard allows fast data transmission rates in the gigabit range, with extremely low latency and a high level of reliability.

    Winstwaarschuwing door diesels bij Daimler

    STUTTGART (AFN/BLOOOMBERG) - De Duitse automaker Daimler is andermaal met een winstwaarschuwing gekomen. De maker van onder meer Mercedes-Benz kampt met de naweeën van een dieselschandaal. Die zitten de opbrengsten van het lopende kwartaal in de weg. Voor Daimler ook reden om zijn verwachtingen voor het hele boekjaar te verlagen.

    Daimler rekent erop honderden miljoenen kwijt te zullen zijn aan het oplossen van de kwestie. De automaker moest onlangs tienduizenden auto's terug naar de garage roepen vanwege gesjoemel met uitstootwaarden. Duitse en Amerikaanse autoriteiten onderzoeken deze zaak. Daarnaast ligt Daimler in de Verenigde Staten onder een vergrootglas omdat het mogelijk verboden afspraken maakte met leverancier Bosch.

    Daimler verwacht dat de operationele winst dit jaar in de buurt komt van het resultaat van vorig jaar van 11,1 miljard euro. Eerder ging de automaker uit van een lichte winststijging. Bij de bedrijfswagentak rekent Daimler op rode cijfers. Het eerste kwartaal werd hier al afgesloten met een tekort van 98 miljoen euro, vooral doordat plannen om pick-uptrucks in Zuid-Amerika te produceren totaal ontspoorden.

    Prognoses

    Het is de derde keer in korte tijd dat Daimler in zijn winstverwachting snijdt. Eerder waarschuwde de automaker al voor tegenvallende opbrengsten als gevolg van lastige marktomstandigheden door de handelsproblemen en de mindere economische groei. Ook de strengere emissietesten die werden ingevoerd en een slepende zaak over koelvloeistof voor airconditioning, waren voor de Duitse automaker eerder redenen om zijn prognoses bij te stellen.

    De nieuwe waarschuwing komt op het bordje van de nieuwe topman Ola Källenius. Hij nam recent het stokje over van Dieter Zetsche.

    Two fully-electric Mercedes-Benz trucks for Camion Transport and Migros

    Two further battery-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros are now in operation in Switzerland: one for the logistics service provider Camion Transport and another one for the retail company Migros. The official handover took place at Mercedes-Benz Trucks in Schlieren near Zurich. The vehicles are part of the so-called eActros "innovation fleet" to test heavy-duty electric trucks with customers. The 18-tonne truck with Camion Transport is used to transport general cargo for commerce, trade and industry in St. Gallen, while the 25-tonne truck in operation with Migros transports goods for supermarket branches in the Zurich area. Each eActros has to cover around 150 km per day, which is well within the range of the eActros' reach of up to 200 km. The batteries are recharged at the customers' depots in the evening.

    Mr Jürg Lüthi, CEO Mercedes-Benz Trucks Schweiz AG said that “In Germany the locally emission-free eActros is already undergoing intensive practical testing with various customers. With Camion Transport and Migros, we are now happy to welcome the first two Swiss customers from different business sectors to further enrich our tests.”

    The Mercedes-Benz eActros is on the road for Camion Transport mainly as part of its sustainability project “Emisson-free to the City Center”. The electric truck transports general cargo from the Schwarzenbach Camion city hub to the nearby St. Gallen microhub. The eActros is also able to flexibly serve other delivery points in the St. Gallen urban area. The cargo is transported in a swap body with a lifting platform.

    Daimler recalls more cars over emissions cheating - Report

    German auto giant Daimler has been ordered to recall a further 60,000 diesel cars believed to have been equipped with emissions-cheating software, the mass-circulation daily Bild reported on Saturday. The German Federal Motor Transport Authority or KBA already ordered Daimler last year to recall 700,000 diesel vehicles worldwide, including 280,000 in Germany, because of software that lowered the amount of dangerous particles their engines emitted during testing. That recall which Daimler is appealing covered a range of different models, including its Vito, C-Class, V-Class and GLC cars.

    But now the KBA has told the carmaker to recall its Mercedes-Benz GLK 220 CDI models built between 2012 and 2015, Bild reported.

    A company spokesman said that "An investigation has been under way since April.”

    Mercedes-Benz Cars inks MoU For New Car Assembly In Egypt

    Mercedes-Benz Cars and the Egyptian government have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for local assembly of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars in Egypt. This is the result of successful discussions with the Egyptian government. This planned commitment is set to further improve the market position of Mercedes-Benz Cars in Egypt.

    The Memorandum of Understanding not only describes a local Mercedes-Benz passenger car assembly, but also contains other potential fields of cooperation. The assembly will be set up by a local business partner. At the same time, Mercedes-Benz Cars emphasizes the involvement and know-how of Egyptian suppliers.

    Mr Markus Schäfer, member of the Daimler AG Board of Management for Corporate Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development said that “Egypt has been an important market of Daimler for passenger cars, busses and commercial vehicles for many years. In the long term, we create various potential for the country and the region through strategic cooperation for mobility topics. Thereby we contribute to stabilizing the economic environment.”

    In view of the long-term market potential, further investments are also conceivable, for example expansion of the dealer network, a logistical hub in the Suez Canal Special Economic Zone and a training centre. Furthermore, the company has offered to make its specialist expertise with respect to modern mobility concepts, e-mobility and electric vehicles, as well as autonomous driving, available.

    With the planned car assembly operation in Egypt, Mercedes-Benz Cars is supporting Egypt as an industrial location. Already now, Mercedes-Benz is securing more than 1,000 direct and indirect jobs in Egypt with its own import and sales organisation, a central spare parts warehouse and numerous authorised retailers and workshops in Cairo, Gizeh, Alexandria and Hurghada. With the new car assembly operation, Mercedes-Benz Cars will create new employment and contribute to better training opportunities with the planned training centre.

    Mercedes-Benz Vans Start Sales Start For Mercedes-Benz Citan Night Package

    The Mercedes-Benz Citan Tourer and Panel Van models recently became available for order with a new equipment package: the Night Package with strikingly sporty accents and elegant black design elements give the compact small van from Mercedes-Benz Vans a bold look.

    The Night Package features black painted exterior mirrors, a radiator grille in black chrome, a tailgate with black trim strip and 16-inch light-alloy wheels in matt grey. What’s more, the Panel Van also features tinted glazing for the rear window. The Tourer equipped with the Night Package also features a tinted rear window as well as dark-tinted rear side windows which protect passengers from the effects of heat and direct sunlight. The Night Package is priced at 1535.10 euros (including 19 percent VAT) and is available in all markets in which the Citan is sold. Deliveries will start in September 2019.

    Besides the Night Package, the equally newly available Design Package RED also serves to enhance the Citan’s dynamic appearance. Red decor stripes under the radiator grille at the front and on the mirror housings, as well as grey stripes in the lower area of the driver’s and co-driver’s doors as well as the sliding doors serve to highlight the unique character of the vehicle.     Mercedes-Benz Start Production Of The New CLA Shooting Brake

    Just a few months after the CLA Coupé, the new CLA Shooting Brake is starting to leave the production lines at the Hungarian Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét. This not only means that Mercedes-Benz Cars is putting the two sportiest models in the new compact car generation onto the roads in well-proven top quality in production too, the company is setting standards with respect to flexibility, efficiency and sustainability. It means that the international ramp-up cascade for compact cars that started with the new A-Class in Rastatt in April 2018 has reached a further milestone.

    Since it commenced production in 2012, the Hungarian Mercedes-Benz plant has constantly increased in importance within the global production network of Mercedes-Benz Cars. Alongside digital networking, the strengths of the production network also include in particular the direct dialogue with the lead plant for the compact cars in Rastatt, Baden-Württemberg in Germany.

    The production network for the compact cars has a total of six plants on three continents: as well as Kecskemét there are locations in Rastatt, Beijing (China), Uusikaupunki (Finland), Aguascalientes (Mexico) and Hambach (France). They currently produce seven models: Mercedes Benz A, B-Class, CLA, CLA Shooting Brake, GLA, A-Class Sedan and the long-wheelbase A-Class L Sedan specifically for the Chinese market.

    The workforce in Kecskemét produces the CLA Shooting Brake and the CLA Coupé exclusively for the world market. The A-Class has been part of the production portfolio at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét since 2018.
