PAWDS Land
Already the US Navy’s choice for the Gerald R. Ford Class of aircraft carriers, the Plasma Arc Waste Destruction System for Land (PAWDS-Land), being the world’s most compact, easy-to-operate, high temperature, plasma-based waste treatment system, is perfectly suited to meet the demands of remote communities and camps (mining, military). Open pit burning generates toxins in the air; open field dumps generates toxins in the water table, and an engineered sanitary landfill is extremely costly in these locations. Developed by our team in close collaboration with the US Department of Defense, PAWDS-Land cost effectively destroys community-generated wastes, while generating excess heat which can be available for heating buildings or for greenhouses, and all the while exceeding local environmental regulations.
www.pyrogenesis.com/products-services... Precies, het zal eens tijd worden dat de overheid verantwoordelijkheid neemt voor de veiligheid van eigen burgers / personeel / milieu!
PyroGenesis Unveils its New NexGen® Plasma Atomization System; Significant Production Advancements for AM Powders Today’s unveiling of the NexGen® System, with production rates in the neighborhood of 25 kg/h, represents a significant achievement not only for ourselves, but for the industry as a whole,” said Mr. P. Peter Pascali, President and CEO of PyroGenesis. “These production rates are easily transferable to our titanium offerings. Higher production rates allow PyroGenesis to provide plasma atomized powders at exceedingly competitive price points. This would allow high value materials to be accessible to many new markets, which have up until now found these high value materials, such as titanium, to be too costly. Once again, PyroGenesis is leading the way with its plasma expertise, and this is just the beginning. We fully expect to improve on all aspects of production, including even improving upon these record shattering production rates.”web.tmxmoney.com/article.php?newsid=5... feitelijk betekent deze melding dat pyrogenesis de komende jaren veruit de goedkoopste producent zal zijn van "spherical metal powders" voor additive manufacturing.
COBOD 3D printer ordered for construction in Saudi Arabia Danish 3D printing construction company COBOD International has sold a BOD2 to Saudi Arabian construction company Elite for Construction & Development Co. The BOD2, reportedly the biggest construction 3D printer in the world, will be delivered to Elite by the end of May, 2019. Elite placed the order of the BOD2 from COBOD in order to fulfil Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to improve the country’s economy and housing through pillars of innovations, i.e., modern construction techniques. Furthermore, the acquisition of the BOD2 3D printer is also a response to Saudi Arabia’s construction programme that aims to build 1.5 million homes in the next 10 years. Mr Henrik Lund-Nielsen, CEO of COBOD International stated “We are very proud to receive this order from Saudi Arabia, which again confirms that our second generation BOD2 3D construction printer is second to none.” New ground for 3D construction COBOD, originally established by Danish 3D printing reseller, service provider and developer 3D Printhuset, launched the BOD2 3D printer in 2018 as an upgrade to the BOD, which produced the first 3D printed building in Europe in 2017. The BOD2 3D printer can print buildings with measurements of 12m in width, 27m in length and 9m in height. COBOD also claim that the machine can produce three storey buildings in one go, with each storey capable of being more than 300 square meters in length. With the BOD2 3D printer now in the hands of Elite, several private and public organizations within Saudi Arabia are looking to make use of the 3D printing technology, provided it is made available locally on a permanent basis. Henrik Lund-Nielsen added “The sheer size of the new printer is impressive. This will by far be the biggest 3D construction printer ever made and with the printer Elite For Construction & Development Co. will be able to do construction projects previously unthinkable for a 3D construction printer. When compared to the BOD building we did, it is clear that Elite for Construction & Development Co. is taking 3D construction printing into brand new territories.” Building the Middle East with 3D printing Recently, construction 3D printing has made various developments within the Middle East. The Saudi Arabia Ministry of Housing has also approved Al Kathiri Holding, a Middle Eastern building materials company, to develop and utilize 3D printed concrete for government-based projects. Furthermore the order of the BOD2 3D printer in Saudi Arabia presents an extension of COBOD’s operations in the Middle East. Recently, the company signed a distribution agreement with 3DVinciCreations, a Dubai-based 3D printing service bureau. 3DVinci Creations will sell COBOD’s construction systems in the UAE. The distribution deal between the two companies is helping to realize Dubai’s vision for 2025, in which at least 25% of every new building in the city will feature the use of 3D printing. 3DVinciCreations has engaged in further partnerships to continue fulfilling Dubai’s 3D printing vision. The service bureau will also distribute London large-scale 3D printer provider Ai Build’s Factory-as-a-Service subscription within the UAE. Source : 3D Printing Industry

NASA successfully tests 3D printed copper rocket thruster with composite overwrap NASA engineers are consistently achieving innovative breakthroughs with additive manufacturing. Most recently, they tested a 2,400 lbf 3D printed copper rocket thrust chamber with a composite overwrap to determine whether the part had the necessary heat and structural load resistance. The testing process consisted of 18 hot fire tests at high chamber pressure which were conducted at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. The results? A-OK! According to a release from NASA, the 3D printed copper rocket thrust chamber with the composite overwrap successfully withstood the high heats and loads of the tests. The successful testing showcases the future potential of combining 3D printing and advanced composite technologies to manufacture thrust chamber assemblies for liquid rocket engines. Among the benefits of using 3D printing to produce rocket engine components are increasingly lightweight structures, faster lead times and lower production costs. In addition to demonstrating the viability of the 3D printed copper rocket thruster and the composite overwrap, the recent testing also highlighted successful use of a new additive manufacturing technique for the nozzle. The 3D printed copper rocket thrust chamber was produced and tested through NASA’s Rapid Analysis and Manufacturing Propulsion Technology (RAMPT) project. The goal of the project—which is in collaboration with Auburn University and specialty manufacturing vendors—is to advance design and manufacturing technologies to improve the efficiency of producing rocket engine assemblies for spacecraft. Specifically, the project is targeting the reduction of manufacturing costs and the increase in scale and performance. To achieve these goals, the project is currently focused on upgrading the rocket engine component with the longest lead time, highest cost and heaviest weight. Ultimately, NASA plans to transition the processes and advances made in the RAMPT project to the space exploration industry. Source : Strategic Research Institute
Sandvik created a smash proof, 3D printed steel electric guitar Rock stars have been smashing guitars for decades, few with more enthusiasm than Swedish-born guitar virtuoso Yngwie Malmsteen. Global engineering company Sandvik decided to test its cutting-edge techniques by building the world’s first all-metal, unbreakable guitar and letting Malmsteen unleash his smashing skills. In the film, Malmsteen plays the guitar in front of an excited crowd in a rock club outside Miami - after which he does his very best to destroy it. Klas Forsström, President of Sandvik Machining Solutions, said “We don’t make products for consumers, so people don’t realize how far in the forefront our methods are. Creating a smash-proof guitar for a demanding musician like Malmsteen highlights the capabilities we bring to all complex manufacturing challenges.” Malmsteen, named one of the ten greatest electric guitar players in the world by TIME Magazine, is known for his virtuoso performances as well as the fury he unleashes on his guitars. A master of neo-classical heavy metal, Malmsteen has produced 30 albums and has been smashing guitars onstage for over 30 years. Sandvik engineered the smash-proof guitar to demonstrate how advanced, precise and sustainable the company’s techniques are. Several different divisions of Sandvik collaborated to make the instrument. For the guitar’s 3D printed body, Sandvik relied on its world-leading expertise in metal powder and additive manufacturing. Lasers traced a design in beds of fine titanium powder, fusing layers of material one on top of the other. The layers, each thinner than a human hair, built up to make the body of the guitar. FACT BOX The guitar body was produced by additive manufacturing, or 3D printing, a technique involving laser-melting titanium powder in microscopically thin layers The guitar’s volume knobs and tailpiece which anchors the strings, were also created with 3D printing. Additive manufacturing minimizes waste and cuts transport and warehousing because components can be printed in small series close to where they are needed. The guitar neck and hub were made of recycled stainless steel and milled all in one machine in one continuous process. Extra material was milled from between frets to meet Malmsteen’s preference for a scalloped fretboard. The back of the guitar’s neck is hollowed out from the inside and is only 1mm thick in places. Advanced software allowed Sandvik Coromant to simulate milling digitally before the first cut was made, enabling the correct choice of tools, saving manufacturing time and ensuring desirable outcomes. Made of hyper-duplex steel, the lattice structure used inside the guitar neck is the strongest structure in the world. Source : Strategic Research Institute
Protolabs launches service for 3D printed copper parts Protolabs, an award-winning on-demand manufacturing provider, has launched a copper 3D printing service, where it is now offering copper parts produced by additive manufacturing as well as CNC machining. By providing this service, Protolabs is looking to fill a gap in market for copper part suppliers, which are often prototyped or produced using CNC machining. The company will 3D print the copper parts using CUNi2SiCR, a low alloyed copper material, and Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS), thus combining the benefits of copper with 3D printing’s ability to print complex geometries. Mr Andrea Landoni, Product Manager for Protolabs, commented that “This development means that engineers can now bring copper parts to market more quickly and cost effectively.” Source : Strategic Research Institute
