    Mooi gesloten, heb net als vele forumleden niets meer bijgekocht de verwachting voor komende week is helaas toch weer verder naar beneden, de € 19,50 waar ik meerdere keren op doelde is nu ruimschoots mooi gehaald bijna een eurootje zelfs lager, komende week zal de € 18,50 snel en ruim gehaald gaan worden

    AMSTERDAM (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Staalreus ArcelorMittal heeft van een rechter in India toestemming gekregen om branchegenoot Essar Steel in te lijven. De Indiase rechtbank voor handelsrecht zou geen bezwaren zien in het resolutieplan van de in Amsterdam genoteerde onderneming, zo bevestigde een advocaat van ArcelorMittal.

    ArcelorMittal werkt in de deal samen met Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal. Eind vorig jaar wonnen de partijen al formeel de overnamestrijd rond het failliete Essar Steel. Een last-minute bod van de oprichters van Essar zorgde voor de nodige vertraging.

    De partijen stelden voor op voorhand 420 miljard roepie (circa 5,3 miljard euro) aan de banken van het failliete bedrijf te betalen om schulden af te lossen. Daarnaast volgt er een kapitaalinjectie van 80 miljard roepie. ArcelorMittal stelde eerder dat de overname een unieke mogelijkheid biedt om een sterke positie op te bouwen in India, de snelst groeiende staalmarkt ter wereld.

    WASHINGTON (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Het aantal in aanbouw genomen woningen in de Verenigde Staten is in januari met 18,6 procent gestegen in vergelijking met een maand eerder. Dat maakte het Amerikaanse ministerie van Handel bekend.

    De bouw kwam uit op ruim 1,2 miljoen huizen op jaarbasis. Economen hadden in doorsnee verwacht dat de woningbouw met 10,9 procent zou stijgen. In december nam de woningbouw volgens een nieuwe schatting met 14 procent af.

    Het ministerie maakte verder bekend dat het aantal afgegeven bouwvergunningen in januari met 1,4 procent is gestegen. Hier werd door economen gemiddeld een daling met 2,9 procent voorspeld.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) China heeft een geplande ontmoeting tussen president Xi Jinping en de Amerikaanse president Donald Trump, die gepland stond voor later deze maand, van de agenda van de Chinese leider gehaald. Dit meldde Fox Business vrijdag.

    Trump zou Xi ontmoeten in Mar-a-Lago in Florida om een handelsakkoord te beklinken. De afgelopen dagen werd echter duidelijk dat een deal tussen de Verenigde Staten en China nog aanzienlijke obstakels moet nemen voor de twee leiders hun handtekening kunnen zetten.

    De Financial Times citeerde vice-directeur Clete Willems van Trumps economische adviesraad vrijdag, die verklaarde dat er nog belangrijke kwesties zijn die moeten worden opgelost. Washington is voorzichtig optimistisch over een deal en de onderhandelingen worden in goed onderling vertrouwen voortgezet, zei Willems. Hij benadrukte dat Trump geen zwakke deal wil.

    De VS stelde importsancties op ruim 200 miljard dollar aan Chinese goederen vorige week nog uit omdat er op dat moment aanzienlijke vooruitgang was geboekt in de onderhandelingen. Optimisme daarover maakte deze week op de financiële markten plaats voor ongeduld bij gebrek aan concrete afspraken.

    Volgens Fox Business komt Xi in april mogelijk alsnog naar de VS voor een ontmoeting met Trump. Beijing zou echter bezorgd zijn dat de VS alsnog weglopen van de onderhandelingstafel.

    ArcelorMittal’s Rs 42,000-crore offer for Essar Steel faces more hurdles

    World's biggest steel producer ArcelorMittal will have to wait further to take over debt-laden Essar Steel in spite of the National Company Law Tribunal's (NCLT) nod for its Rs 42,000-crore proposal, reports suggest. Essar Steel promoters Ruia family has said they are looking at the options available including an appeal to the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT).

    The appellate tribunal had earlier directed NCLT Ahmedabad to pass an order on ArcelorMittal's takeover bid of Essar Steel by March 8. A spokesperson of Essar Steel said: "We continue to believe that our settlement proposal of Rs 54,389 crore is the most compelling one available to Essar Steel creditors and fulfils the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code's (IBC) declared overriding objective of value maximisation, which has been established time and again by courts at all levels. We are also confident of the legal validity of our said offer made under Section 12A, which provides for the withdrawal from the IBC process by making full payment to the creditors. We are awaiting a copy of the NCLT order, and will take a call on next steps after examining the same."

    Meanwhile, industry circles consider the NCLT order as a major win for LN Mittal-led ArcelorMittal. The two-member bench of Harihar Prakash Chaturvedi and Manorama Kumari also suggested a "better implementation" of ArcelorMittal's resolution plan.

    The tribunal suggested that instead of keeping 92 percent under the proposed plan, financial creditors could limit their share to 85 percent so that operational creditors might get 15 percent instead of 8 percent.

    The tribunal also suggested the inclusion of Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) in the 85 percent share among financial creditors, unlike ArcelorMittal's proposal, which excluded most of SCB's claims. However, the tribunal said these were merely suggestions and would not affect its order approving ArcelorMittal's plan.

    "This court has limited jurisdiction and cannot impose its view on the commercial wisdom of the committee of creditors," the bench stated.

    The ArcelorMittal's bid includes an upfront payment of Rs 42,000 crore ($5.7 billion) towards the debt resolution of Essar Steel with an additional Rs 8,000 crore ($1.1 billion) of capital infusion into the company to support operational improvement, increase production levels and deliver enhanced levels of profitability, according to a report in the Business Standard. In October 2018, the committee of creditors (CoC) of Essar Steel had voted to approve ArcelorMittal's plan and a letter of intent was issued.

    "We welcome today's pronouncement by the NCLT Ahmedabad. While we need to review the full written order once it becomes available, we hope to complete the transaction as soon as possible," an ArcelorMittal spokesperson said. As in the case of Bhushan Steel, where Tata Steel had moved in within 72 hours of winning the bid in the tribunal, ArcelorMittal may seek to move in to take hold of Essar Steel without delay.
