    Steinhoff International Holdings NV (SNH.JO) said Thursday that first-quarter revenue rose 2.7% and it is nearing the publication of its accounts for the past two fiscal years following an independent investigation.
    The South African retailer said it generated revenue from continuing operations of 4.69 billion euros ($5.34 billion) in the three months to Dec. 31 compared with EUR4.57 billion in the year-earlier period. Growth in Europe and Africa offset declines in the U.S. and Australia, the company said.
    The group continues to engage with regulators after disclosing accounting irregularities in December 2017.
    The company said PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory Services Pty. Ltd., which was appointed at the time to conduct an independent investigation into the company's financial statements, has now substantially completed its work. A final report will be delivered to the Steinhoff board in mid-March, the company said.
    Steinhoff said it expects to publish its results for fiscal 2017 and 2018 after reviewing the document.
    Furthermore, the company said its debt-restructuring process remains ongoing.

    Op basis van deze cijfers blijf ik zeer optimistisch. Het voortbestaan van het geheel lijkt niet in gevaar en het bestuur klinkt alsof men het schip weer werkelijk bestuurt.
    Jammer dat de jaarcijfers weer verder worden uitgesteld naar mei maar ik lees daarin nog geen slechte aanwijzingen. Vermoedelijk willen ze op basis van de cijfers kijken welke directe acties kunnen worden aangekondigd (verkoop onderdelen e.d.).
    Voorlopige conclusie: positief. De koers zal ongetwijfeld volgen maar vertrouwen komt te voet...

    Als we dit jaar voorbij de 0,30 komen ben ik zeer tevreden.

    Als ik het goed begrijp levert PWC de cijfers halverwege maart aan Steinhoff en worden ze, na controle door Steinhoff, gepubliceerd. Kan dus al eerder zijn dan april.

    On Thursday, embattled retailer Steinhoff warned of more litigation following a disastrous year during which legal claims amounting to billions of euros were initiated in the wake of Markus Jooste’s departure as CEO.

    The company, which lost more than R200bn of its market value following the collapse of its share price in December 2017 when it admitted to accounting irregularities, says it expects the forensic investigation by PwC into its affairs to be completed by the middle of March.

    “A number of legal proceedings have been initiated against the group, in addition to those reported previously,” it stated in the update posted on its website on Thursday.

    The company has established a newly constituted litigation committee to assist its management and supervisory boards in dealing with law suits underway in SA and Europe, most of which relate to losses incurred by shareholders in relation to “accounting irregularities”.

    The company again re-affirmed that its audited financial statements for 2017 and 2018 will be published on April 18. As far as the ongoing forensic investigation is concerned, it said: “PwC has now substantially completed its work and expects to deliver its report in mid-March. The company will only provide an overview of the report prior to the publication of results.”

    The trading performance of Pepkor Europe and locally listed Pepkor Holdings continues to be the bright spots for the group in the quarter to end-December.

    The trading update, which represents activity during the busy Christmas period, shows that revenue from continuing operations rose 3% to €4.691bn.

    Its French-based furniture retail chain Conforama’s turnover fell by 3% over the prior corresponding period to €927m, as it was forced to close during civil protests last year.

    By contrast, Pepkor Europe, which comprises Pepco (Eastern Europe) and Poundland (UK), reported that revenue increased by 15% to €993m, with Pepco growing revenue by 34%.

    JSE-listed Pepkor Holdings, in which Steinhoff still owns a 71% stake, grew revenue by 5% to €1.198bn. The group also generated a good result at its automotive unit, but there were small revenue declines at Mattress Firm and Greenlit Brands (previously Steinhoff Asia Pacific).

    JOHANNESBURG - South African retailer Steinhoff reported a slight rise in quarterly sales on Thursday and said its business was still suffering from the effects of accounting fraud.

    Steinhoff was thrown a lifeline last July when its creditors agreed to delay debt claims for three years after the multinational retailer revealed a more than $12 billion (£9 billion) hole in its accounts.

    The owner of the Mattress Firm chain in the US and Conforama outlets in France said sales rose 3% to €4.7 billion (£4.0 billion) in the three months to December, with a strong performance at separately listed Africa unit Pepkor compensating for weak results in France, the United States and Asia Pacific.

    “The liquidity constraints and loss of confidence resulting from the discovery of the alleged accounting irregularities continued to have an impact on operations,” chief executive Louis du Preez said.

    Steinhoff has already written down the value of its assets by more than $12 billion following the initial findings of an independent investigation into the company’s past bookkeeping practices.

    The full findings of the forensic investigation, being carried out by accounting firm PwC, would be delivered to the board in mid-March before being made public in the middle of the following month.

    Shares in Steinhoff fell 3.7% to R2.08 as of 09:47 GMT, valuing the company at around R9 billion (£484 million), down from more than R200 billion 15 months ago.
