    5-11-201817:59 ?Oxurion gaat samenwerken met Beta TherapeuticsOxurion , de Leuvense specialist in behandelingen voor aandoeningen aan de achterkant van het oog, gaat een strategische onderzoekssamenwerking aan met het Australische bedrijf Beta Therapeutics. Het is de bedoeling om nieuwe hepanarase-inhibitoren te ontwikkelen voor de behandeling van netvliesaandoeningen waarvoor nog geen goede behandeling voor handen is, zoals droge leeftijdgebonden degeneratie van de macula (gele vlek) of in het jargon AMD.Binnen de samenwerking zal Oxurion mogen putten uit het hepanarase-inhibitorenprogramma van Beta en daarvoor een aanvangsbedrag (dat niet wordt bekendgemaakt) betalen plus latere mijlpaalbetalingen en royalty's op de verkoop van producten die binnen het partnerschap zijn ontwikkeld.

    Over droge AMD.Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of severe central visual acuity loss in 1 or both eyes in people over 50 years of age in the United States. It is estimated that 15 million North Americans currently have AMD. Prevalence of the disease is roughly 85%–90% nonexudative (dry) AMD and 10%–15% neovascular (wet) AMD. As a greater percentage of Americans live well beyond 60 years of age, more patients will become visually impaired from AMD than from glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy combined. Although the term macular degeneration may be used to describe any degenerative abnormality in the macula, the words age-related should probably be added only for eyes that demonstrate the nonneovascular or neovascular abnormalities described in the following discussion.

    BioComm Pacific is representing Beta Therapeutics: We are poised to undertake IND-enabling studies in age-related macular degeneration (AMD) with our lead program, BT-2180, focused on treatment of inflammatory processes that underlie both ‘dry’ and ‘wet’ forms of AMD. BT-2180 has shown significant efficacy in dry AMD and is equivalent in efficacy to modulation of the complement system by complement factor C3 knockout. BT-2180 is an injectable with a safety profile that has been established in humans by systemic administration and has been formulated for intra-ocular IND-enabling studies.This program has an accelerated path to the clinic because it is a patented repurposing of an existing therapeutic candidate.Our drug candidates modulate inflammatory processes driven by macrophage activation, a key driver of inflammation in disease micro-environments including pancreas islets in diabetes and the retina in AMD. Modulation of inflammation is achieved through inhibition of heparanase, which is required for macrophage activation and inflammatory gene expression. As such, our therapeutics will have applicability in a range of autoimmune or inflammatory indications. In addition to AMD, we have shown significant efficacy in type 1 diabetes through reduction of islet inflammation and sparing of beta cells.Our second program is focused on novel small molecule therapeutics that have shown excellent efficacy in mouse models and include allosteric heparanase inhibitors that are being optimized for systemic and oral delivery. We are actively seeking partners and strategic commercial collaborations to move our programs forward in AMD or other inflammatory conditions.

    't Is niet enkel het aandeel zelf, heel de beurs draait vierkant. Toch blijft het vreemd dat dat verkopen gewoon blijft verdergaan. Koers zit ongeveer op die van eind '15. Is er niks positiefs gebeurt in die 3 jaar?
