First turbine installed at Vattenfall offshore wind farm Horns Rev 3 First turbine at Vattenfall’s offshore wind farm Horns Rev 3 has been installed in the North Sea off the west coast of Denmark. The wind farm will increase Danish annual electricity production from wind by about 12 per cent and cover the consumption of approximately 425,000 Danish households. This is the first time in five years a new offshore wind farm is being constructed in Denmark. Mr Martin Zappe, Project Director at Horns Rev 3 said that "We are pleased to have started installing the turbines at Denmark's next offshore wind farm. Horns Rev 3 is a significant step towards a fossil free future for both Vattenfall and Denmark. The construction of the wind farm is a large operation that involves many ships and different jobs. We are very careful about the safety of the staff, and I'm happy that the work is progressing well.” Horns Rev 3 will increase the Danish annual electricity generation from wind by about 12 per cent. The turbines are produced by MHI Vestas and shipped from Port of Esbjerg on the west coast of Denmark. The installation of the turbines is expected to last until November and the farm is expected to be in full operation at the beginning of 2019. Source : Strategic Research Institute
Siemens Gamesa wins order for a 235 MW onshore project in Sweden Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy announced the order for the 235 megawatt Overturingen wind park in central Sweden. The scope of the project is to supply 56 units of the SWT-DD-130 wind turbine rated at 4.2 MW each, including delivery, installation and long term service. The customer is the Green Investment Group (GIG), a business of Macquarie Capital. The Overturingen wind park was developed by SCA in close partnership with Siemens Gamesa. With a tip height of 220 meters the turbines will be amongst of the tallest structures in the Nordic countries. They are more than 30 meters higher than the highest building in Scandinavia. Installation at the site in the Ånge community, situated halfway between the cities of Sundsvall and Ostersund, is scheduled for 2019 with full commissioning the same year. Manufacturing of nacelles and blades is planned in the Siemens Gamesa facilities in Denmark. Other essential construction work will be sourced from local companies. Mr Ricardo Chocarro, CEO Onshore at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy said that “We are proud to set a visible example of the performance of our products in Sweden. Our technology perfectly meets the site- and project-specific requirements. At the same time, this project demonstrates the attractiveness of wind energy for the capital markets, investors and communities.” Mr Mark Dooley, Global Head of Green Energy for Macquarie Capital and the Green Investment Group said that “Siemens Gamesa is a leading turbine supplier and a natural partner for a project as ambitious as this. Siemens Gamesa’s expertise in the Nordic region was particularly valuable in bringing this project to financial close and builds on our global relationship with them, from Sweden to Texas and Taiwan”. Present in Sweden since 1992, the accumulated base installed by Siemens Gamesa accounts for nearly 1.3 GW and more than 500 turbines. Source : Strategic Research Institute
Nordex Group passing the 1000 MW milestone in Ireland In June 2018, the Nordex Group received another order from Ireland, bringing the total volume awarded in that country to the significant one gigawatt mark. With a market share of more than 30%, the Group had already underscored its strong position in the region in the previous year. Although Ireland is one of the smaller markets in the wind industry, it allows manufacturers to prove their technical prowess. This is because it is directly exposed to strong winds coming in off the Atlantic, the landscape is largely complex with restrictive environmental conditions and the Irish grid code is among the most challenging and advanced in the global wind market. Ms Nigel Hayes, who is in charge of the Nordex Group’s Irish business said that “The key to our success in Ireland is having the right product solutions to deal with a broad range of challenges. No two sites are the same, with highly variable planning envelopes, difficult wind conditions, complex sites and noise sensitivities. Consequently, it is crucial to have robust and flexible technology to maximize returns for our customers. On top of this, a fundamental requirement for doing business in Ireland is to have strong commitment to compliance with the Irish grid code. Nordex Group has a proven track record in this regard, gained over many years, which gives our customers confidence in us.” Nordex entered the Irish market for the first time sixteen years ago with the N80/2500, which was still new at the time. It was one of the most powerful turbines in 2002 and featured a design that was particularly suitable for this market. In the meantime, the company has completed many other projects with very different systems for its customers. At the same time, it has widened its national team to over 60 employees. Nigel Hayes said that “We look forward to continuing our strong performance in Ireland and contributing to Ireland’s transition to a low carbon economy.” Source : Strategic Research Institute
Aeolus starts work on Belgium’s largest offshore wind farm Starting in 2019, some 400,000 households will be running on green energy supplied by Norther, set to be Belgium’s largest offshore wind farm. Offshore installation vessel Aeolus underwent a major transformation before installing the very first foundation in the seabed this month. The installation of the first of a total of 45 foundations marks the start of the Norther offshore wind farm project. The wind farm will be located 23 km from the Belgian port of Zeebrugge and will have a total capacity of 370 MW. The project will therefore actively help Belgium achieve its climate targets in 2020. As main contractor, Van Oord is responsible for the engineering, procurement, delivery and installation of the 45 foundations for the wind turbines, the offshore high-voltage station and the entire electrical infrastructure, as well as for installing the wind turbines themselves. In addition to the Aeolus, Van Oord will also be deploying its cable-laying vessel Nexus on the project in the next few months. Modifications Van Oord began deploying the Aeolus on offshore wind projects in 2014. The offshore installation vessel has been a valuable and reliable asset ever since, but to keep up with the rapidly changing offshore wind market, it required a major upgrade. Van Oord consequently decided to boost the vessel’s loading capacity, increase the number of onboard accommodations to 99, widen the vessel, reinforce the deck and add a helicopter deck. The spud poles – the vessel’s ‘feet’, as it were – have also been enlarged. The most critical modification was a new crane with a lifting capacity of 1,600 tonnes. That makes the Aeolus one of the biggest heavy-lift crane vessels in its class and ready to handle the latest generation of foundations and wind turbines. Source : Strategic Research Institute
Senvion to service one of the Netherland largest onshore wind farms Senvion has signed a four year renewal contract to service Vattenfall’s 122 MW Princess Alexia Wind Farm located at Zeewolde, in the Flevoland Province of the Netherlands. Joint teams of Senvion and Vattenfall/Nuon turbine engineers will be servicing 36 Senvion 3.4M104 turbines at Princess Alexia from their base in Nijkerk. Princess Alexia, formerly known as the Zuidlob wind farm, is fully owned by Vattenfall through its subsidiary Nuon. It is one of the biggest onshore wind farms in the Netherlands. Commissioned back in September 2013, the wind farm has the power to generate electricity for up to 88,000 households a year. The construction of Princess Alexia was started at the end of 2011 and the entire project was completed by Senvion within 17 months. Mr Knud Rissel MD Europe North of Senvion, said that “We are delighted to be working with Vattenfall and Nuon at the Princess Alexia, one of Europe’s largest onshore wind farms. Our service teams will be working hard to ensure our turbines work to maximum efficiency, producing the highest yields possible.” Source : Strategic Research Institute

www.telegraaf.nl/nieuws/2437458/als-w... Welnee. De Telegraaf voorspelt 6m zeestijging. Nieuw Amsterdam is reeds gesticht.
