    Vooruit Hans,

    Je weet dat ik je inzet nu al zovele jaren geweldig waardeer.

    Vandaar toch even deze posting: Ik zag dat dit draadje, door mij geopend, maar vrijwel geheel onderhouden door jou, ook alweer 15 jaar bestaat en dankzij jou een massa, massa informatie.

    Zojuist Diporder Daimler aangetikt: 64,50 Euro. Ik denk dat die order d'r al heel lang stond en ik weet als geen ander dat het momenteel risicovol is nu juist in Duitse automobielsector te investeren, maar, dit draadje bewijst het zo goed, ik ben er al decennia mee bezig en op een gegeven moment moet je het aandurven weer een pluk erbij te pakken.

    Zullen we Henk, heel vriendelijk vragen, die Volkswagendraad weer terug te zetten naar de KK van IEX?

    Of zullen we het allemaal maar zo laten. Zouden er eigenlijk wel beleggers zijn die in de Duitse automobielwereld NU geïnteresseerd zijn, want met een Trump kan het natuurlijk alle kanten uitgaan, al ziet het er in China goed uit.

    Thanks voor je werk Hans en vandaar deze posting! Iemand doet er echt iets mee.

    Beste Peter,

    Even een volle quote (doe ik normaal niet), maar in dit geval wel.

    Hartelijk dank voor je waardering, ook al door de jaren heen, en zo lang ik eigenlijk lid ben van de IEX (sinds 2005).

    Je kan natuurlijk altijd een verzoek aan Henk indienen.
    Ik weet niet of je het gemerkt hebt (jij ben niet zo'n fan van fora, buiten de Koffiekamer), maar Henk/IEX heeft in de loop der tijd een enorm aantal nieuwe fora/draadjes geopend met aaandelen, die soms amper in het nieuws komen.
    Blader eens voor de lol van A naar Z. Je zal versteld staan.

    Verder wil ik kwijt dat ik jouw posts, door de vele jaren heen, altijd gewaardeerd heb. Laat daar geen twijfel over bestaan.

    Ook de IEX weet dat, en bood een je ambassadeur lidmaatschap aan.
    Dat heb je geweigerd, om voor jou moverende redenen.

    Ik heb er echter baat/plezier van.
    En ja, wat ik hier, en elders allemaal doe, wordt zéér gewaardeerd door velen posters/lezers, waarvoor dank natuurlijk.

    Ik hoop mijn postings nog lange tijd door te zetten.

    Daimler gaat elektrische truck bouwen

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Daimler heeft woensdagavond zijn eigen elektrische truck aangekondigd, waarmee de Duitse autobouwer de strijd aangaat met onder meer Tesla en Volkswagen.

    De Freightliner eCascadia truck van de Duitse autobouwer moet in 2021 in productie gaan en zou per laadbeurt 250 mijl, ofwel circa 400 kilometer, kunnen rijden. De Semi-truck van Tesla, die in 2020 gebouwd moet worden, zou een bereik van 500 mijl hebben.

    Daimler onthulde ook een kleinere truck, die 230 mijl zou halen per oplaadbeurt.

    De Duitse autobouwer is van plan om dit jaar in totaal 30 prototypes klaar te hebben van beide modellen.

    Daimler unveils new generation Mercedes-Benz bus at TN plant

    PTI reported that German automaker Daimler recently unveiled its latest flagship product Mercedes-Benz 2441 Super High Deck bus, manufactured at the company's plant near here. Daimler Buses India, part of the Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, launched the 15-metre luxury coach, which it claimed was the lightest in the class and offered more power and comfort.

    Mr Thomas Fricke, Daimler Buses India, MD, said that "As the Indian bus market is evolving, we lead the shift with products that meet global standards of performance and safety."

    Mr Fricke was speaking after unveiling the Super High Deck automatic coach buses at the company's factory in Oragadam, about 50km from here.

    He said that "With superior technology, we aim to be the benchmark in terms of total cost of ownership, safety and comfort."

    Currently, Daimler's bus portfolio in the domestic market comprises BharatBenz 9-tonne buses in school, staff and tourist bus segments, Mercedes-Benz 15-metre multi-axle luxury coaches and bus chassis for the 9, 16, 24-tonne segments.

    Electric cars on target after report of launch delays - Daimler

    Reuters quoted Daimler as saying that planned launches of battery-powered luxury cars were on schedule on Monday following a report in Germany's Handelsblatt that they were facing delays because of battery shortages and other technical problems. The German business daily said that Daimler's new "EQC" electric midsize sport-utility vehicle will not hit dealerships until June 2019, several months after originally planned.

    But a spokesman at Daimler's Stuttgart headquarters said it has not yet specified a launch date for the EQC model.

    Handelsblatt reported that a battery-powered version of Mercedes' redesigned S-Class flagship saloon will not be available until 2021, a year after the combustion engine model is due to come to market, citing unnamed Daimler sources.

    The Daimler spokesman told Reuters that development of a plug-in hybrid version of the new S-Class was going to plan. He said that "We are on target, there are no delays."

    STUTTGART (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Mercedes-moederbedrijf Daimler roept in Europa 774.000 dieselauto's terug wegens verdenkingen van gesjoemel met uitstootgegevens. Het Duitse ministerie van Transport heeft opdracht gegeven voor de terugroepactie.

    Het gaat om onder meer de Mercedes Vito en de Mercedes C-klasse. Ongeveer een derde van de betreffende auto's rijdt rond in Duitsland, verder zijn geen gegevens over de verdeling per land gegeven. Mercedes laat weten ,,in het hoogste tempo" aan de slag te gaan om de voertuigen te repareren.

    De recall heeft te maken verdachte testgegevens van de auto's. Net als bijna drie jaar eerder bij branchegenoot Volkswagen zijn de wagens mogelijk gemanipuleerd om schoner te lijken dan ze in werkelijkheid zijn. Software herkent wanneer de auto wordt getest, waarna bepaalde systemen in werking treden of juist worden uitgeschakeld.

    Daimler sets up R&D centre for autonomous trucks in US

    Reuters reported that Daimler's trucks division has set up a research and development centre for autonomous driving in the United States, the latest sign of the German manufacturer's commitment to getting self-driving freight trucks on the road.

    The company said that engineers at the new facility in Portland, Oregon, will draw on R&D resources at Daimler Trucks operations in Germany and India to create a global network of hundreds of specialists in the autonomous driving sphere.

    It said that Stuttgart-based Daimler will invest more than EUR 2.5 billion in R&D at its truck operations by 2019, with more than EUR 500 million earmarked for electric heavy-duty commercial vehicles, connectivity and self-driving technology, including the new Portland facility.

    Mr Sven Ennerst, head of truck product engineering at Daimler, said that "We are pioneering technologies across the automated vehicle spectrum that make roads safer and help trucking companies boost productivity."

    Emissions Scandal - Daimler shares drop on report up to 1 million cars contain defeat device

    Reuters reported that Daimler shares fell following a report that up to a million Daimler cars contained illegal defeat devices as Chief Executive Mr Dieter Zetsche prepared to meet the transport minister. German weekly Bild am Sonntag said up to 1 million cars contained software to cheat emissions tests on diesel vehicles.

    Carmakers use software to manage exhaust emissions filtering and engine performance. A device can be classified as illegal if exhaust filtering systems are deactivated too early or without good reason.

    German Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer summoned Zetsche after the country's KBA Motor Vehicle Authority discovered "inadmissible defeat devices" in Mercedes-Benz engines, even as Daimler disputes they were illegal.

    Daimler declines to comment on the 1 million vehicles figure, but said it is cooperating fully and transparently with the KBA and Germany's Transport Ministry.

    Daimler, like other car manufacturers, uses urea nitrate liquids to neutralise nitrogen oxide emissions in exhaust fumes.

    However, Germany's road vehicle authority, the KBA, has taken issue with the emission control features amid suspicion they allow vehicles to emit excess pollution without detection.

    Daimler denies Bild report that more Mercedes cars contain unauthorised software - Report

    Daimler denied a report by German daily Bild that there are around 3 million Mercedes diesel vehicles suspected of being affected by unauthorised software defeat devices. Bild reported, citing company sources that the G-Class, E-Coupe, S-Class, GLE and the C-Class with a Renault engine were also being examined.

    Daimler said in response that the recall was clearly limited to the numbers announced.

    The German transport ministry said on Monday that 774,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in Europe had been found to contain unauthorised software defeat devices and ordered Daimler to recall more than 200,000 cars in Germany.

    The ministry said that Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Vito models with diesel engines and a sports utility variant of the sedan, known as the GLC, were the main cars found to be at fault.

    Emissions Scandal - Germany orders recall of 774,000 Daimler cars in Europe

    AFP reported that Germany ordered the recall of some 774,000 vehicles from Mercedes-Benz maker Daimler across Europe, citing illegal "defeat devices" designed to conceal high levels of harmful emissions from regulators' tests. "The federal government will order an immediate official recall because of illegal defeat devices," Transport Minister Mr Andreas Scheuer said in a statement.

    Mr Scheuer added that the move mostly affects Vito vans and diesel-powered versions of GLC 4x4s and C-class sedans.

    Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche was summoned Monday for crunch talks with Scheuer over emissions irregularities in the firm's vehicles.

    He said that "Daimler says the applications in the motor control software the federal government has found fault with will be removed at the greatest possible speed and in cooperative transparency with the authorities."

    So-called defeat devices were at the heart of Volkswagen's "dieselgate" scandal, in which the world's largest carmaker admitted in September 2015 to installing them in 11 million vehicles worldwide.

    Fuel cell venture with Daimler will close – Ford Motor

    Reuters reported that Ford Motor Co and Daimler AG are winding down a joint venture formed to develop automotive fuel cell technology, Ford said, as both companies plan to take their respective fuel cell technology development in-house.

    Ford said in response to an inquiry by Reuters that the Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation Corp venture, based in Burnaby, British Columbia, will close this summer.

    Mercedes-Benz plans to make e-cars in Pune, India

    Times of India reported that Mercedes-Benz, the world's top luxury carmaker, plans to manufacture electric vehicles in India at its factory at Chakan in Pune. The German auto major, which leads the luxury car market in India, feels that the country will emerge as one of the key market for electrics in the coming years, in line with the government's focus on non-combustion technologies as well as efforts to tackle the rising pollution across top cities.

    Mr Michael Jopp, Mercedes-Benz India VP (sales & marketing) told TOI that "As the Indian market moves towards electrics, we will be investigating local manufacturing here. As part of our long-term perspective (on India), we want to manufacture here. When it happens, we would certainly manufacture them at our plant in Chakan, alongside the combustion engine vehicles."

    The company - which drove in S63 AMG coupe at Rs 2.55 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi) on Monday - has been taking a closer look at the Indian government's electric vehicle policy as it firms up its plans for the segment.

    Mr Jopp, however, said that there are still "challenges" that remain to be sorted out before local manufacturing can begin. These include provision of an "eco-system" from the government's side, that would include having a robust charging infrastructure to power the electric vehicles.

    Mercedes-Benz India to launch 4 news C-Class model in October 2018

    Mercedes-Benz announced at an event in Europe that the facelifted Mercedes-Benz C-Class line up will launch in India around October. The range will consist of four models starting with the C 200 petrol, the C 220d diesel, the more powerful C 300d diesel and the high-performance Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic+. This new C-Class is a significant mid-life upgrade over the current car so a mild price hike over the present car can be expected.Mercedes-AMG C 43 4Matic+.

    Exterior changes include sportier design elements in the front and the rear end of the car, redesigned LED headlamps, new light-alloy wheels and new colour options. The interior gets a larger 10.25-inch display for the infotainment, a new stereo system which sits between the old standard unit and the top-spec Burmester audio. A new multifunction steering wheel with touch control buttons, open-pore trim elements and new colours for the mood lighting round off the changes inside. The all-digital instrument cluster has been revised as well, but it is not known if the new C-Class will get that feature in India.

    The new C200 also comes with the latest iteration of Mercedes' driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control, steering assist, lane change assist, emergency stop assist and brake assist. These could make their way to India, given that Mercedes has started offering such tech in its flagship S-Class.The C200 petrol, now powered by a new 1.5-litre inline four motor good for 184 PS and 280 Nm, gets the EQ Boost system which provides an additional 14 PS and 160 Nm while accelerating. This helps to tide over the flat spots in the powerband before the turbo kicks in. Other advantages include the gliding mode with the engine switched off, and recuperative braking when the vehicle is coasting. Improvements have also been made in shift times for the 9-speed auto and to the engine cooling system. The EQ Boost system is effectively a mild-hybrid system, Mercedes chooses to call it differently.Mercedes Benz C220D.

    Alongside the C 200 petrol, Mercedes-Benz India will also bring the facelifted Mercedes-Benz C-Class to India in the C 220d diesel variant. The engine will be the new 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel motor which puts out 194 PS and 400 Nm, replacing the older 2.1-litre unit which made 170 PS/400 Nm. The new 9-speed auto also makes its way here. Changes have been made to the engine to improve frictional losses and also to reduce weight. Most notably though, the diesel motor misses out on the EQ boost 48-volt system that the petrol motor comes with. International models also get a four-wheel drive version. But keeping cost considerations in mind, that version is unlikely to be available here. The C 300d with the same 2.0-litre diesel motor will also make it to the Indian line-up. This version makes 245PS but a final decision hasn't been taken yet on whether it be called as such, or come in the more recognisable C 250d moniker.Mercedes Benz Saloon.

    The other variant will be the high-performance Mercedes-AMG C 43. This version will sit at the halfway mark between the full-bore C 63 AMG and the regular C-Class line. For the new C-Class, the AMG development engineers have increased the output of the twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine by 23 PS to 390 PS. Peak torque stays at 520 Nm. The 9-speed auto gets model-specific software tweaks here to improve responsiveness. Four-wheel drive will be standard. The C 43 will initially come with the saloon body style, the coupe version coming in at a later date. The AMG-specific aero and visual updates will be present as well.The C-Class is one of the more popular models in Mercedes' global lineup. The C-Class has sustained this appeal in India as well with its traditional mix of luxury and newfound dynamic ability. The facelifted range with its selection of different powertrains will broaden this appeal further.

    Daimler sees lower 2018 net profit

    Reuters quoted Daimler as saying that profit would fall in 2018 as new import tariffs on cars exported from the United States to China would hurt sales of high-margin Mercedes-Benz sports utility vehicles. Daimler earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) would now be slightly below the previous year's level, rather than slightly above, the company said in a regulatory filing.

    Daimler's revised forecast comes as US President Mr Donald Trump is proposing to impose tariffs on imported vehicles on grounds that trade imbalances on many products threaten US national security. He is separately promising to impose tariffs on up to USD 200 billion of Chinese goods. China has warned it would retaliate with levies on U.S. products, potentially including the Mercedes-Benz sport utilities shipped to China from Alabama.

    Separately, the chief executive of Volvo Cars warned that higher tariffs could undermine the Chinese-owned automaker's plans to hire up to 4,000 workers at a new vehicle assembly plant in South Carolina.

    Daimler said that a new vehicle certification process based on stricter fuel efficiency test procedures will hit sales in the second half of the year.

    Trump Trade War - Mercedes-Benz expects car sales hit

    Sputnik reported that Germany’s Daimler Benz is one of the many European companies already feeling the pinch of the escalating trade war between the United States and China. The maker of the world-acclaimed Mercedes cars and trucks is worried that, contrary to earlier projections, its profits this year could be “slightly below the previous year’s level,” on expectations that China will raise tariffs on vehicles imported from the United States, The Guardian wrote.

    In a tit-for-tat response to Washington’s move to impose a 25 percent tariff on $50 billion worth of Chinese goods containing “industrially significant technology,” Beijing has announced similar levies on $50 billion in US products including cars.

    Daimler AG builds Mercedes SUVs in the US and ships them to China, its biggest market.

    Taking a hit from the escalating trade spat between Washington and Beijing, Daimler has seen its shares lose 3.3 percent on the Frankfurt stock exchange.

    BMW, which has large factories in the US, has lost 2.7 percent of its stock value.

    Daimler sold a record 594,300 Mercedes cars between January and April due to strong demand in China, but the company fears that Beijing’s current row with Washington may change that.

    Daimler said in a statement that “The decisive factor is that, at Mercedes-Benz Cars, fewer than expected SUV sales and higher than expected costs – not completely passed on to the customers – must be assumed because of increased import tariffs for US vehicles into the Chinese market. This effect cannot be fully compensated by the reallocation of vehicles to other markets.”

    China’s finance ministry said that it would begin imposing its own 25 per cent tariffs on 545 categories of US products worth USD 34 billion including soybeans, beef, whiskey and off-road vehicles on July 6.

    Geruchten stuwen koers Daimler

    De aandelen van Duitse autofabrikanten als Daimler veren aardig op dankzij geruchten dat de importheffing van 20% uit de VS van tafel gaat. Daimler (Mercedes, Smart) wint op dat nieuws een kleine 4%.

    Erg concreet is het nieuws vooralsnog niet: de Duitse invloedrijke krant Handelsblatt weet te melden dat de grote drie, VW, BMW en Daimler, "in het geheim met de Amerikaanse ambassadeur in Duitsland hebben gesproken."

    Terughoudendheid aan te raden
    Het door Trump gestarte handelsconflict kán grote gevolgen hebben voor de Duitse autobouwers: als de VS eenzijdig besluit een importheffing van 20% op te leggen, dan is dit een escalatie van het handelsconflict. Het zal de verkopen van de Duitse autofabrikanten fors onder druk zetten, wat weer een schokgolf door de vele toeleveranciers van de auto-industrie zal veroorzaken.

    De beperkte rebound in aandelen BMW, VW en Daimler is een typisch geval van buy the rumor. Voor beleggers zijn het lastige tijden: mocht de heffing van tafel verdwijnen, dan is het business as usual. En die business lijdt al onder de angst dat de economie afzwakt. Autoverkopen zijn conjunctuurgevoelig.

    Mocht Trump op ramkoers blijven, en dus de geopperde heffing van 20% wél doorvoert, dan is dat behoorlijk slecht nieuws voor de Duitse autofabrikanten.

    Bovenop deze onzekerheid geldt ook nog dat er geen klaarheid is over de diesel sjoemelaffaire. Die is nog absoluut niet van tafel verdwenen en kan ook een forse impact hebben op de cijfers bij een negatieve uitkomst van allerlei lopende onderzoeken. VW is al door het stof gegaan maar heeft dit dossier nog niet weten te sluiten, Daimler ligt ook onder de loep en ook bij BMW gelden er nog steeds vraagtekens.

    Kortom, de omgeving voor bedrijven als BMW, Daimler en VW is verre van optimaal. Dit is dan ook niet het juiste moment om de aandelen van de Duitse drie in portefeuille te nemen, ondanks de an sich attractieve waardering.

    Beleggers die toch vooruit willen lopen op een gunstige uitkomst: van de Duitse drie heeft de Bleggersdesk een lichte voorkeur voor VW. Die laatste is in ieder geval goed op weg op de sjoemelaffaire af te sluiten.

    Daimler kent, net als overigens BMW en VW, een relatief lage waardering. Die lage waardering (k/w 6) hangt sterk samen met de gevoeligheid voor de conjunctuur, de diesel sjoemelaffaire en sinds kort ook nog het handelsconflict met de VS. Wij raden een positie langs de zijlijn aan tot er meer duidelijkheid over voorgenoemde issues komt.

    Ja Hans en echt al weken met Porsche, VW Vorzugsaktien en Daimler mijn grote zorgenkinderen.

    Natuurlijk volg ik de Duitse sites intensief betreffende de handelsoorlog en de impact ervan op ook de Daimlerfabrieken in de USA die naar China exporteren.

    Helemaal daarnaast de " normale " berichtgeving over verkopen en de gebruikelijke gedoe over de sjoemelsoftware.

    Het zat allemaal enorm tegen. Nu weer bij Audi gedonder en een van de bazen is gearresteerd en gevolg voor aandeel VW laat zich raden. Maar als je dan kijkt naar de verkoop van VW in België dan lees je een week geleden dat al de VW ellende allang verteerd is en VW weer de meest verkochte auto in België is.

    En dan al die berichtgeving over Daimler, die jij zo mooi plaatst, maar die ik dus ook op de Duitse sites lees.

    Ondertussen is z'n Daimler ruim 20 procent gezakt en dat hakt er dus echt in. Bij VW bijna hetzelfde,

    Uiteindelijk toch besluit genomen nu met die paniek in de markt voor wat betreft de handelsoorlog , NU niet meer te verkopen. Integendeel ik kocht zelfs bij, maar was daar dus wat te optimistisch.

    Eergisteren met Marique gehad over halfjaar resultaat 2018 en al die analyses die je dan weer leest voor het tweede half jaar. Uiteindelijk weet geen mens het, want geen mens weet hoe die handelsoorlog gaat escaleren dan wel heel langzaam tot rust komt.

    Duitse autosector was de grote bloeder in mijn portefeuille afgelopen half jaar. Daar staat dan weer een Umicore tegenover met 26 procent winst vanaf 1 januari.

    En zo zie je maar weer de beschermig van een breed gespreide portefeuille, want al met al, en met al die volatiliteit en onheisberichten, boerde ik toch vooruit in eerste helft van 2018.

    Geen van de drie Duitse automobiel aandelen gaat er dus uit.

    Voor de lol Hans: Mijn zoon heeft Tesla en zo nu en dan lekkere, goedgemeende discussies: vader: zoon.

    Hartelijk dank weer voor je zéér uitgebreide antwoord! Bijna niemand hier doet dat meer. Ik lees jouw posts ook met veel plezier. Ondanks dat je heel veel leest op Duitse sites etc., moet er toch af en toe wat staan hier, wat je nog niet kent?

    Daimler completes construction of Polish plant

    Daimler has completed constructing its high-tech engine plant for Mercedes-Benz in Jawor, Poland, one of the first CO2-neutral factories in Poland which aims to increase its global production network and create 1,000 additional jobs. The company had decided to create 500 additional jobs after originally stating only 500 would be created to cope with high demand for its high-tech four cylinder engines.

    Markus Schäfer said that “In our CO2-neutral plant in Jawor, we will build highly efficient engines for our hybrid vehicles and conventionally powered passenger cars. The construction of this plant is an investment in the future and an important milestone on our way to the mobility of the future. This is a strong sign of our commitment to the location and to German-Polish friendship."

    Therefore, there will be over 1,000 additional employees at the Jawor factory when production starts at the end of 2019.

    The factory will produce four cylinder Diesel and Petrol engines for hybrid as well as conventional vehicles and will supply plants of Mercedes-Benz Cars around the globe. The different engine variants will be produced alongside the corresponding crankcases on highly flexible lines enabling quick reactions to market demand. The engines produced at the factory combines modern engine technology and partial electrification using 48 volt technology.

    Geen Daimler, maar wellicht toch interessant?

    German carmakers optimistic on 2018 growth

    Reuters reported that German autos trade body VDA has nudged higher its forecast for growth in domestic car sales this year even as the sector continues to grapple with the aftermath of the diesel crisis and a looming trade war. It said it now expected Germany's passenger car market to grow by 1 percent to around 3.5 million vehicles this year, compared with a previous guidance for 3.4 million.

    VDA President Bernhard Mattes told journalists at a news conference on Tuesday "Despite economic and political uncertainty, the German automotive industry remains strong.”

    In June, new car registrations were 4 percent higher than in the year-earlier period.

    Germany's autos sector is being rattled by a threat by US President Mr Donald Trump to impose a 20 percent tariff on all imports of cars assembled in the European Union.
