How to buy Ripple - Ripple is a different kind of cryptocurrency. Here's how to buy it.
While all cryptocurrencies are a little different from one another, Ripple stands apart with its backing by major banks. That’s lead to some interesting partnerships, which in turn helped boost Ripple and by extension its transactional protocol, XRP, to become one of the largest cryptocurrencies by market share in early 2018.

Financial Times: Bitcoin rival’s rise (XRP) unnerves banking sector

XRP is a cryptocurrency outlier. Unlike decentralised, rebellious bitcoin, created post-financial crisis amid distrust of banks, XRP is supposed to grease creaking banking infrastructure, part of the back-office finance technology offered by San Francisco-based Ripple. Brad Garlinghouse, its chief executive, called XRP “the global liquidity solution for payment providers and banks”.

World Economic Forum: 5 ways digital currencies will change the world

    (...)Faster, cheaper bank transfers

The way banks move money today is archaic. International bank transfers can take up to a week, with correspondent banks and country-specific clearing houses involved at both ends. Even the cross-border sharing of payment data faces challenges and frictions. By using a digital currency such as bitcoin, bank transfers could be made instantly, cheaply and safely. In fact, such transfers could even happen without using new currencies. Ripple Labs, for which I am an adviser, supports a protocol that allows clients to transfer funds from one currency to another (say, dollars to euros) using a secure digital ledger. Their technology moves money around the globe in seconds by first finding the most efficient path between trading partners, where the path might consist of a series of transactions among foreign exchange traders who have accounts in a variety of banks, and then confirming all required transactions simultaneously.(...)

Goldman Sachs: Goldman issues a warning on bitcoin -- and an even bigger warning on Ethereum
“We think the concept of a digital currency that leverages the blockchain technology is viable given the benefits it could provide: ease of execution globally, lower transaction costs, reduction of correction since all transactions could be traced, safety of ownership, and so on,” Goldman wrote. “But bitcoin does not provide any of these qualities.”

Goldman has weighed how effective bitcoin is for the various purposes that its advocates argue it can serve. Ultimately, it concluded that bitcoin is too volatile to function as a store of value, and too inefficient to replace traditional currencies as a means of transferring value. However, it suggested cryptocurrencies could be a viable alternative in frontier markets, where traditional services of money are inadequately supplied.

    NASDAQ: The Rise Of Ripple
"Unlike Bitcoin, Ripple (XRP) is not created using proof-of-work or mining in datacenters using massive amounts of electricity. Instead, each XRP pre-exists in the network and hence are able to reach network consensus faster."

Ripple Wants XRP to Be Bitcoin for Banks. If Only the Banks Wanted It
Ripple’s Garlinghouse says comparing GPI to his company’s offerings is like racing a horse and buggy against a car. “What GPI is basically trying to do is use the existing architecture to try to make it go faster,” he says. “And can you whip a horse faster to make it go as fast as an automobile?”

Japan: Coincheck Exchange Freezes All Withdrawals As Up To $723 Mln Leaves Its Wallet

    cointelegraph.com/news/japan-coinchec...

So far for the "dream" of unregulated currency's with this new "MT-GOX" like robbery....

Funny they used XRP to send the robbed money fast away to their own wallet on a nice sunny island...

Now regulation is only months away and this is a good thing, for all the people who were robbed, for Ripple and for XRP!

It looks like nothing more than Coincheck having problems with covering NEM credits, with a big XRP investor withdrawing his XRP credits as a result.

If that's the case it's just a liquidity problem of the exchange!

Storing 100mln on a online exchange is, well.. STUPID!
