    Daimler plans at least six electric car models - Report

    A person familiar with the plans said that Mercedes-Benz owner Daimler plans to roll out at least six, and possibly as many as nine, electric car models as part of its push to compete with Tesla Motors, BMW and Audi.

    Automobilwoche, a sister publication of Automotive News Europe, earlier cited company sources as saying Daimler would bring to market more than six electric car models between 2018 and 2024.

    The report said that Mercedes will create a subbrand for electric cars.

    German firms are investing heavily in electric cars, a segment once neglected by the industry as customers shunned their limited operating range and high cost.

    But a growing political backlash against diesel fumes and recent advances in battery technology to increase the reach of an electric car by up to 50 percent have spurred major investments by Volkswagen, Daimler and suppliers such as Bosch and Continental.
    Reuters' source said Mercedes would also make an SUV model with a plug-in hybrid engine powered by fuel cells, which would have a range of up to 50 km (30 miles) on battery power and would then run on electricity generated by hydrogen.

    Daimler boekt meer omzet en winst

    Autoverkopen blijven sterk.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Daimler heeft in het derde kwartaal van 2016 zowel de omzet als nettowinst zien stijgen. Dit maakte de Duitse autofabrikant vrijdag voorbeurs bekend.

    De omzet van Daimler steeg 4 procent op jaarbasis naar 38,6 miljard euro. Er werden door de fabrikant op jaarbasis 5 procent meer voertuigen verkocht.

    Het bedrijfsresultaat (EBIT) steeg van 3,7 miljard naar 4,0 miljard euro, een stijging van 10 procent. De nettowinst steeg zelfs met 13 procent van 2,4 miljard euro naar 2,7 miljard euro. De winst per aandeel nam met 0,20 euro toe en kwam uit op 2,43 euro.

    Outlook

    Voor geheel 2016 voorziet Daimler een omzetgroei West-Europa en Azië. Voor Noord-Amerika, Canada en Mexico wordt echter een omzet voorzien die onder het niveau van 2015 uitkomt.

    Het aangepaste bedrijfsresultaat (EBIT) komt naar verwachting iets hoger uit dan in 2015.

    Het aandeel Daimler sloot donderdag 1,2 procent hoger op 66,00 euro.

    Daimler to invest USD 11 billion for development of electric vehicle

    Carwale reported that the dieselgate scandal by Volkswagen has resulted in a shifting trend amongst the German manufacturers for working towards the development of electric vehicles in their forthcoming car line-up.

    The latest entrant to this fray for electrification is Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, who have revealed that they will invest up to USD 11 billion (approx. INR 7000 crore) into the development of electric vehicles.

    Daimler plans to have 25% of its production to comprise of electric vehicles by the year 2025. The investment will go into development 10 electric models, three of which will be under Smart brand and will feature a higher range of around 700 kilometres, courtesy of larger batteries.

    The new electric cars will be under Mercedes-Benz’s new electric sub-brand Generation EQ, which was showcased at this year’s Paris motor show. The electric cars from the German manufacturer will include different body style sharing same modular electric platform. There will be a luxury SUV, followed by two electric sedans and a smaller crossover as well.

    Meer winst voor Daimler

    Autoverkopen naar jaarrecord.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Daimler heeft in het vierde kwartaal van 2016 de omzet licht zien oplopen wat zich vertaalde in een stevig gestegen bedrijfsresultaat (EBIT) en nettowinst. Dit bleek donderdag uit de cijfers van de Duitse autobouwer.

    Daimler zag de omzet over het laatste kwartaal van 2016 met 1 procent stijgen van 40.428 miljoen naar 41.001 miljoen euro. Het bedrijfsresultaat steeg 19 procent naar 3.459 miljoen euro op een gerapporteerde basis. De nettowinst kwam 18 procent hoger uit op 2.206 miljoen euro.

    Over 2016 wist Daimler voor het eerst in de geschiedenis 3 miljoen auto's weg te zetten, goed voor een stijging op jaarbasis met 5 procent.

    Het bedrijf uit Stuttgart stelde aan aandeelhouders een dividend voor van 3,25 euro per aandeel, gelijk aan 2015.

    Outlook

    Daimler verwacht voor het lopende boekjaar een lichte stijging van de verkoop van auto's, omzet en bedrijfsresultaat. Het bedrijf verwacht vooral een grote bijdrage van de Duitse regio, maar ook van andere dominante landen in de zogeheten EU-30 regio.

    Het aandeel Daimler sloot woensdag 1 procent hoger op 70,02 euro.

    Bosch en Daimler werken samen aan zelfstandig rijdende auto

    Oplevering in aankomende decennium gepland.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Toeleverancier Bosch en autofabrikant Daimler halen de banden aan om te werken aan een zelfstandig rijdende auto. Dit maakten de Duitse ondernemingen dinsdag bekend zonder financiële details vrij te geven.

    Bosch, een samenwerkingspartner van de Nederlandse navigatiespecialist TomTom, wil samen met Daimler in het begin van het volgende decennium een volledig zelfrijdende auto op de markt brengen. Daimler, de eigenaar van Mercedes, kocht samen met andere Duitse autofabrikanten in 2015 HERE, een belangrijke concurrent van TomTom.

    De samenwerking tussen Bosch en Daimler moet onder meer resulteren in een "boost" om auto's te delen.

    In de slotfase van de laatste oefensessie reed de Nederlander een rondje van 1.32,194 over het circuit van Sakhir. Niemand kwam daar toen nog aan te pas....(Telegraaf.nl)

    Ik durf te stellen dat het F1-circus niets meer is dan een Gentle-mens club met louter miljonairszoontjes die zich via Pappa hebben kunnen inkopen voor een zitje in een van de 20 bolides, uitgezonderd Max verstappen dus!

    Al laat Verstappen de twee trainingsdagen lopen en start hij als laatste, hij zal het podium halen, op zeker!

    Mercedes tikt gewoon 20 miljoen euro per "overwinning" af, gewoon het bekende reclame-tarief.
    Verstappen doet niet mee aan afspraken, overeenkomsten, oude tradities, afspraken met Eclestone...hij wil racen zonder focus op geld of ondertafel afspraken.

    Geen enkele journalist durft dit aan te kaarten, de wielrennerrij achterna, schoon schip maken.

    De F1 is een Farce, ik wil de droom voor vele fanaten niet doorprikken, het is populair en trekt veel kijkers...Bernie is er Miljardair mee geworden.

    STUTTGART (AFN) - Autoconcern Daimler heeft zijn winstverwachting voor het hele jaar verhoogd. De automaker is positiever geworden vanwege het aanhoudende succes bij onderdeel Mercedes-Benz.

    De make-over van het merk, dat met zijn nieuwe modellen vooral meer jongeren aan zich weet te binden, krijgt daarmee nog meer elan. Afgelopen jaar stootte Mercedes BMW al van de troon als meest populaire merk van luxeauto's.

    Daimler voorziet nu in 2017 een ,,significante'' groei van de winst, waar het eerder mikte op een lichte groei. Topman Dieter Zetsche zei daarbij nog meer ijzers in het vuur te hebben voor verdere winstgevende groei, zonder dat echt te concretiseren. Wel zijn de financiën aanwezig voor investeringen, voegde hij toe.

    De onderneming bevestigde daarbij ook de eerder afgegeven voorlopige resultaten over het eerste kwartaal, waarin het concernbreed een operationele winst neerzette van 4 miljard euro.

    Invallen bij Duitse autobouwer Daimler - media

    Autoriteiten doen onderzoek naar mogelijke fraude dieselemissie.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Autoriteiten hebben meerdere locaties van de Duitse autobouwer Daimler doorzocht in verband met mogelijke dieselemissiefraude. Dit meldden nieuwsmedia dinsdag op basis van een statement van Daimler.

    Het moederbedrijf van onder meer Mercedes liet weten dat autoriteiten in Stuttgart, thuisbasis van Daimler, meerdere vestigingen hebben doorzocht.

    Het aandeel Daimler noteerde dinsdag nog slechts 0,2 procent hoger op 67,87 euro, na eerder op de dag nog op 68,67 euro te hebben gestaan.

    Mercedes building new EV battery factory

    Mercedes-Benz’ parent company Daimler has invested GBP 431 million (approximately INR 3,137 crore) in a new factory in Kamenz, Germany, which will assemble lithium-ion battery packs for the carmaker’s upcoming line-up of EQ-branded electric cars, along with its Smart Electric Drive models, new electric commercial vehicles and future hybrid models.

    German Chancellor Angela Merkel broke ground on the new facility, which has been described as Europe’s first true electric car battery making 'gigafactory'. The factory marks the second stage in a broader EUR 1 billion (approximately INR 7,277 crore) investment made by Daimler in its Accumotive energy storage subsidiary as it prepares to enter the electric car ranks with its first unique-styled EQ-badged model in 2019.

    Daimler hopes the establishment of the new plant will enable Mercedes-Benz to challenge electric car market leader Tesla, which is nearing completion of its battery gigafactory in cooperation with Japanese electronics giant Panasonic in Nevada, USA. The new factory is expected to provide the company the basis for a significant reduction in battery production costs together with increases in the energy density levels required to see the new generation of electric cars reach a promised range of more than 483km.

    Mercedes-Benz chairman Dieter Zetsche said that “The automotive industry is facing a fundamental transformation. The battery factory in Kamenz is an important component in the implementation of our electric offensive. By 2022, we will have more than 10 purely electric passenger cars. We also continue to drive forward the hybridisation of our fleet. Under the EQ brand, we are creating a holistic ecosystem for e-mobility.”

    The new battery facility is scheduled to start production in mid-2018. Covering an area of around 20 hectares, it will quadruple the production and logistics of Accumotive’s current operations.

    As well as producing batteries for future Mercedes-Benz electric cars, Accumotive will also provide batteries for the company’s new 48-volt equipped models, starting with the facelifted S-class.

    At the ceremony marking the start of construction of a new Accumotive factory, Mercedes-Benz confirmed its upcoming line-up of electric cars would be produced “within the global network of Mercedes-Benz on four continents.”

    The first EQ model, the production version of the Generation EQ SUV, will roll off that line at Mercedes-Benz’ plant in Bremen, Germany, in 2019. Additionally, the German carmaker also confirmed that luxury-class EQ models will be produced at its plant in Sindelfingen, Germany.

    Mercedes-Benz expects electric cars will make up between 15 and 25% of its total sales by 2025.

    Mercedes to introduce new entry-level petrol engines in international markets

    Auto Car India reported that as part of a concerted downsizing initiative, Mercedes-Benz will be introducing a brand new entry-level petrol engine in international markets consisting of both, 1.2- and 1.4-litre direct-injection units. The new four-cylinder engines, codenamed M282, are planned for launch in the next generation of compact Mercedes-Benz models, starting with the next-generation A-class which would go on sale internationally during the second quarter of 2018.

    Following their introduction in the new A-class, the engines will be launched in upcoming successor models of the CLA, GLA, and B-class. They will also be used in the new A-class sedan, which was previewed by the Concept A saloon at the 2017 Shanghai motor show, and a new BMW X1-rivalling SUV model expected to be called the GLB.

    Developed in partnership with Renault-Nissan, Mercedes' parent company Daimler’s alliance partner, the new engines have been conceived specifically for transverse applications. This means they are unlikely to be used in larger Mercedes-Benz models, even in hybrid applications.

    The new 1.2- and 1.4-litre four-cylinder powerplants will join the line-up which features a heavily updated version of the existing M274 engine that will also be introduced in the new A-class. Named the M260, it will be offered in both 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre guises, with the latter forming the basis for a 406hp-plus successor to the AMG-developed M133 unit used by the A 45, CLA 45 and GLA 45 4Matic.

    Bosch under suspicion in Daimler emissions probe

    Reuters reported that German prosecutors investigating whether carmaker Daimler manipulated emission tests on its diesel cars are looking at whether auto components supplier Bosch was involved in the alleged fraud was confirmed on Friday.

    A spokesman for the Stuttgart prosecutor said that "There is an investigation into aiding and abetting fraud, following a media report published on Thursday."

    The spokesman added that the Bosch investigation started a couple of weeks ago and was tied to the continuing probe of Daimler, the owner of the Mercedes-Benz brand.

    Bosch is a provider of engine management software to Daimler and prosecutors are investigating whether the carmaker made use of illegal software to cheat emissions tests.

    The latest investigation of Bosch in connection with Daimler comes in addition to a separate inquiry in which Stuttgart prosecutors are looking at what role Bosch may have had in helping engineers at Volkswagen manipulate diesel emissions.

    The new probe targets "unknown individuals", the spokesman for the public prosecutor's office said.

    A spokesman for Bosch said: "As a matter of policy, and due to the sensitive legal nature of these matters, Bosch will not comment further concerning matters under investigation and in litigation."

    This week prosecutors searched Daimler's offices as part of the investigation into diesel emissions and said they were in touch with the US authorities.

    Mercedes-AMG plans two model strategy for small cars

    Mercedes-Benz's AMG performance division will extend its compact car line-up with the introduction of a second range of models positioned beneath its existing A 45, CLA 45 and GLA 45 lines. The two-tier car strategy, which mirrors moves taken further up the AMG line-up, will lead to the launch of a new range of turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder models introduced to the German carmaker's range over the next two years when successor models to the current A-Class, CLA, GLA go on sale.

    Announcing the new entry-level AMG compact car line-up, on the sidelines of the Nürburgring 24 Hours in Germany on Saturday, AMG boss Mr Tobias Moers said that "We will complement our successful 45 models with two versions, like we do with our larger cars."

    In a further boost to AMG's compact car line-up, Mr Moers also confirmed that the production version of the Concept A-class sedan, revealed at the Shanghai motor show, would form the basis for two new models as part of the new two-tier approach. He said that "The Compact A sedan has typical AMG features so you can expect that from AMG as well."

    The AMG boss also confirmed the successor to the M133 engine, used by today's 45 models, will be assembled on site at AMG. Mr Moers said that "Future four-cylinder performance engines will also be built [at AMG's engineering headquarters] in Affalterbach."

    Daimler and BAIC to make electric cars in China

    Daimler's China chief Hubertus Troska and BAIC Group's XuHeyi will formally agree to upgrade production facilities in Beijing to allow German luxury brand Mercedes-Benz to introduce an electric car in China. Reuters reported that Daimler will sign a memorandum of understanding with China's BAIC Motor Corporation about producing a Mercedes-Benz electric car.

    Daimler's China chief Hubertus Troska and BAIC Group's XuHeyi will formally agree to upgrade production facilities in Beijing to allow German luxury brand Mercedes-Benz to introduce an electric car in China.

    Daimler already has a factory in Beijing together with joint venture partner Beijing-Benz Automotive where it makes Mercedes-Benz vehicles powered with conventional combustion engines.

    The agenda to the Germany-China summit also showed that Volkswagen is due to sign a contract with Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co about production, research and development of electric cars in China.

    Mercedes-Benz India achieves best-ever Q2 sales

    The country's leading luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz India announced achieving the best ever June, second quarter and half-yearly sales in 2017. The Stuttgart-based carmaker sold 3,521 vehicles in India in the April-June 2017 period, registering a total growth of 18 per cent over the 2,975 units sold during the same period last year. Furthermore, the company also had the best-ever June sales with 40 per cent growth achieved over June 2016. This year the company also marked the brand's highest ever half-yearly sales, which went up by 8.7 per cent with total sales accounting to 7171 units against the 6597 units sold during January-June 2016.

    Commenting on these impressive sales achievements Mr Roland Folger MD & CEO of Mercedes-Benz India said that "Having set the sales momentum in Q1 2017, we are glad to better ourselves with an impressive Q2 sales performance, which grew by a robust 18%. This sales performance further strengthens our customer-centric strategy, which is bearing fruit. We are confident of our leadership in the market by sustaining this growth story in the remaining quarters as well."

    Between January and June 2017 the company has launched a total of six new products in the Indian market with an average of one product per month. The year started off with the launch of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class Night Editions, followed by the launch of other special edition models like the - 2017 S-Class Connoisseur's Edition and the Mercedes-AMG G63 'Edition 463'. Having said that, the most important launch for the company this year was the new-gen E-Class Long Wheelbase Sedan. While the company kick-off the sales with the E 200 and E 350 d, in early June Mercedes-Benz India completed the new E-Class family with the launch of the entry-level E 220d.

    Talking about the new E-Class Mr Folger said that "The demand for the Long Wheelbase E-Class, in particular, has contributed immensely to our volumes." Last month the carmaker also launched the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63, the performance iteration of the standard issue Mercedes-Benz GLS that is already on sale in the country. As for the luxury SUV space, that carmaker said that there was 31 per cent growth in the January-June 2017 period and the Mercedes-Benz GLC, which was launched in India last year remained the highest selling SUV in Mercedes-Benz's portfolio in H1 2017. Other SUVs in the company's line-up includes the GLE, GLA and the GLS. Early this week Mercedes launched also the 2017 GLA facelift in India.

    Daimler beschuldigd van dieselfraude - media

    Betreft mogelijk meer dan een miljoen voertuigen.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) In navolging van onder meer Volkswagen en Fiat Chrysler wordt ook de Duitse autobouwer Daimler beschuldigd van het manipuleren van emissietesten in Europa en de Verenigde Staten. Dit schreef de Duitse krant Sueddeutsche Zeitung woensdag op basis van justitiële documenten van de rechtbank in Stuttgart.

    Twee maanden geleden zouden aanklagers in Stuttgart enkele fabrieken van Daimler in Duitsland hebben bezocht, na beschuldigingen van misleidende reclame-uitgingen en mogelijke manipulatie van emissietesten bij dieselwagens.

    Volgens Sueddeutsche Zeitung zouden er tussen 2008 en 2016 in Europa en de Verenigde Staten meer dan een miljoen voertuigen, waaronder diverse luxe Mercedes-Benz-modellen, zijn verkocht met buitensporige emissie-uitstoot.

    Het aandeel Daimler sloot woensdag nog 0,3 procent hoger op 64,40 euro.

    Grote recall Daimler wegens dieselschandaal

    STUTTGART (AFN/BLOOMBERG) - Daimler, het concern achter Mercedes-Benz, roept meer dan 3 miljoen Europese dieselwagens terug naar de garage voor aanpassingen in verband met het dieselschandaal. Met de ingreep wil de Duitse autobouwer zorgen over mogelijke fraude met de emissiesystemen van de auto's wegnemen.

    Het gaat volgens een verklaring om een vrijwillige recall die klanten niets kost. Daimler verwacht in totaal zo'n 220 miljoen euro kwijt te zijn aan de update. Eerder dit jaar werd al gestart met een speciale servicebeurt voor circa 274.000 auto's. De nieuwe aankondiging zou een soort uitbreiding daarvan betreffen.

    ,,Het publieke debat over dieselmotoren zorgt voor veel onzekerheid'', aldus Daimler-topman Dieter Zetsche. ,,We hebben daarom besloten extra maatregelen te nemen om bestuurders van dieselauto's gerust te stellen en het vertrouwen in dieseltechnologie te versterken.''

    Vergrootglas

    Daimler is een van de autofabrikanten die extra onder een vergrootglas liggen sinds in 2015 aan het licht kwam dat Volkswagen op grote schaal geknoeid heeft met uitstootgegevens. Aanklagers deden in verband hiermee in mei ook invallen bij kantoren van Daimler. Volgens Duitse media zou onderzoek van justitie bovendien al uitgewezen hebben dat het bedrijf afgelopen jaren veel diesels heeft verkocht die meer broeikasgassen uitstoten dan is toegestaan.

    Volkswagen reserveerde eerder vele miljarden euro's voor de nasleep van het schandaal. Miljoenen dieselauto's van het concern bleken voorzien van technologie die ervoor zorgde dat ze in testsituaties veel milieuvriendelijker leken dan zij in de dagelijkse praktijk waren.

    Daimler told German emissions inquiry it hadn't breached rules

    Reuters reported that Daimler told a German government committee investigating whether carmakers had sold cars with excessive emissions that it had not broken the law.

    The Stuttgart-based carmaker was summoned for a meeting on Thursday to address allegations that it had sold more than a million cars with excessive emissions in Europe and the United States.

    A Transport Ministry spokesman said that the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) was inspecting Daimler cars for possible excessive emissions. He said that "Daimler said during the meeting on Thursday that it had acted in accordance with the law.”

    Verkopen Daimler stijgen tot recordniveau

    Duitse autoproducent boekt hogere omzet en hoger bedrijfsresultaat.

    (ABM FN-Dow Jones) Daimler heeft het afgelopen kwartaal een hoger bedrijfsresultaat en hogere omzet geboekt en zag een recordaantal voertuigen van de band rollen. Dit bleek woensdag voorbeurs tijdens de publicatie van de resultaten over het tweede kwartaal van de Duitse autoproducent.

    CEO Dieter Zetsche sprak van een uitstekend tweede kwartaal, waarbij de strategie van het bedrijf vruchten begon af te werpen. "We hebben onszelf ambitieuze doelen gesteld. En we bereiken ze, in termen van verkopen en winstgevendheid", voegde hij toe.

    Daimler verkocht in het tweede kwartaal 822.500 personenauto's en bedrijfsvoertuigen, een stijging van 8 procent op jaarbasis en een record voor de Duitse autoproducent, waarbij met name het merk Mercedes-Benz sterk presteerde.

    Het bedrijfsresultaat (EBIT) kwam uit op 3,7 miljard euro, een stijging van 15 procent ten opzichte van dezelfde periode een jaar eerder, toen het concern een bedrijfsresultaat rapporteerde van 3,3 miljard euro. Onder de streep resteerde een 2 procent hogere nettowinst van 2,5 miljard euro.

    De omzet steeg in het tweede kwartaal met 7 procent van 38,6 miljard euro naar 41,2 miljard euro.

    Outlook

    Daimler verwacht dat de omzet van de groep in 2017 aanzienlijk zal stijgen, waarbij de omzet van divisies Mercedes-Benz Cars, Daimler Buses en Daimler Financial Services aanzienlijk hoger zal zijn dan in 2016. Ook het bedrijfsresultaat zal dit jaar vermoedelijk hoger uitkomen.

    Het concern wordt momenteel genoemd als een van de Duitse autoproducenten die mogelijk jarenlang betrokken was bij kartelvorming op onder andere het gebied van emissieniveaus. In de cijfers werd hier woensdag niets over gezegd.

    Het aandeel Daimler steeg dinsdag in Frankfurt 0,2 procent.

    Daimler profit up slightly as truck business lags

    Economic Times reported that automaker Daimler AG net profit rose slightly in the second quarter as its Mercedes-Benz luxury car business boomed but profits lagged at its truck, van and bus businesses. The company said Wednesday that net profit was up 2% compared to a year ago, to 2.51 billion euros (USD 2.9 billion) from 2.45 billion euros. Revenue increased 7 per cent to 41.16 billion euros (USD 48 billion).

    The Mercedes division had its best quarter for unit sales ever, with 2.4 billion euros (USD 2.8 billion) in operating profit.

    That was a 70% jump from last year, when the company took a 440 million euro charge for recalls of cars equipped with defective airbags made by supplier Takata. E-Class sedan and SUV sales helped.
