Dr. Mahdi Shkoukani, Division Chair of Otolaryngology (ENT) at the Integrated Surgical Institute, explains a groundbreaking new procedure for obstructive sleep apnea.
Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulation, an implant under the chin, gently moves the tongue forward during sleep, keeping the airway open and reducing apnea episodes. Once healed, patients simply apply a small sticker at bedtime to activate it.
Obstructive sleep apnea affects an estimated 1 billion people worldwide, with up to 90% undiagnosed. The first-of-its-kind procedure at #ClevelandClinicAbuDhabi offers new hope for patients who struggle with traditional treatments, improving sleep and overall health.
