    IVECO & Plus Autonomous Trucking Pilot in Europe & China

    CNH Industrial’s commercial vehicles brand IVECO has joined global provider of self-driving truck technology Plus as their European partner for the launch of a pilot in Europe and China, to begin the validation and integration of Plus’s autonomous trucking technology with IVECO’s latest-generation S-WAY heavy-duty truck. This first joint trial will test and demonstrate the performance of Plus’s integrated system in the IVECO S-WAY across a wide range of environments and driving conditions.

    This level of comprehensive testing, using both the driver-in (i.e., with driver on board) PlusDrive solution and Level 4 autonomous driving technology, will help gather data and validate the design integral to S-WAY autonomous production.

    Scania Investing in Test Track for Autonomous & EVs

    There is a rapid development of autonomous and electrified vehicles. Scania therefore plans further investments in Södertälje; a new test track where future vehicles will be tested and driven as a part of Scania’s research and development operations. Scania has recently completed a new foundry and the work with a new building for battery assembly is ongoing, both located in Södertälje. Now, Scania plans for yet another investment of about 975 million SEK, and this time it is regarding a new test track, as well as an extension of existing ones.

    If Scania’s application to the count administrative board Länsstyrelsen is accepted, the ambition is to begin the work during 2022, and this is expected to last until at least 2026.

    Het waarschuwingssysteem wordt ingevoerd in personenauto’s, bussen en vrachtwagens en moet zeven jaar lang gratis worden aangeboden. Auto’s worden er dus voorlopig niet duurder door. ISA werkt samen met bestaande hulpsystemen zoals verkeersbordherkenning, cruisecontrol, snelheidsbegrenzer en het navigatiesysteem

    GM koopt belang in zelfrijdende auto's van Softbank

    General Motors (GM) GM 0,00% koopt het belang van het Japanse Softbank in de startup Cruise van 11 procent. Daarmee drijft de Amerikaanse autobouwer zijn belang op tot 80 procent in de onderneming die zich bezighoudt met zelfrijdende auto's. GM telt voor het belang 2,1 miljard dollar neer en zegt daarnaast nog eens 1,35 miljard dollar te willen investeren in Cruise. Dat laatste doet het omdat Softbank beloofd had om zo'n bedrag te investeren zodra het bedrijf voertuigen zou inzetten in een activiteiten rond gedeeld rijden.

    Het belang werd gekocht van het Vision Fund van Softbank. Dat zou er en stevig rendement aan hebben overgehouden omdat het belang voor meer dan het dubbele van het initiële investeringsbedrag is verkocht. GM zakt voorbeurs met 1 procent.

    Toen een zelfsturende wagen door de politie werd tegengehouden omdat zijn koplampen uit waren ondanks het feit dat het donker was, probeerde het voertuig – een robotaxi – te vluchten. Het voorval speelde zich af in de Amerikaanse stad (en tech-hub) San Francisco.

    Torc Robotics & Logistics Firms Developing Autonomous Trucking

    Daimler Truck is a leading OEM in the development of SAE Level 4 autonomous trucks with critical redundant safety systems. With its independent subsidiary Torc Robotics, Daimler Truck is pushing ahead with the development of autonomous trucking in the United States. The companies have the longest autonomous driver technology and truck OEM partnership in the industry and have been safely and reliably testing a fleet of autonomous trucks on public roads in the US on a daily basis. As a next step, Torc is now cooperating with leading US logistics companies to further develop the real-world applications for autonomous trucking. To that end, Torc has established the Torc Autonomous Advisory Council with key freight industry players to incorporate deep industry insights into its development process.

    Council members such as Schneider, Covenant Logistics, Penske Truck Leasing, Ryder System Inc, CH Robinson and Baton as well as Daimler Truck North America as OEM, will provide strategic guidance to Torc as they integrate with the freight network and tackle challenges beyond highway driving. With customer co-creation, Torc enters into the next stage of development, focusing even more sharply on specific customer requirements and concrete business models. Daimler Truck and Torc firmly believe in making autonomous trucking a reality and commercializing the technology within this decade.

    Since acquiring a majority stake in Torc three years ago, Daimler Truck has made significant progress in turning autonomous trucks from an idea into reality. Typical driving scenarios such as lane changes and complex merges have been tested intensively and have proven that Torc’s autonomous driving software can safely navigate on highways. Recently, Torc has expanded its testing and is demonstrating L4 autonomous trucks with enhanced capabilities in more complex scenarios. Equipped with state-of-the-art LiDAR, radar and camera technology, the trucks are capable of advanced driving behaviors on surface streets, ramps and turns at controlled intersections.

    These capabilities are essential for the planned deployment in the hub-to-hub use case. In this application, drivers deliver goods in conventional trucks over the first mile to transfer hubs along highways in key US freight corridors. From there, the trailer is coupled with a purpose built L4 autonomous truck that safely navigates long stretches of highways by driving autonomously from hub-to-hub. Once the L4 truck reaches the destination hub, the last-mile distribution will continue via manually driven trucks. Factors such as long, open stretches of highway, increasing demand for freight movement, large fleets and forward-looking regulators make the U.S. the ideal proving ground to deploy this new technology first.

    Honda to Launch Autonomous Vehicle Mobility Service in Tokyo

    Honda Mobility Solutions Co Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding with two taxi and limousine service providers in Japan, namely Teito Motor Transportation Co Ltd and kokusai motorcars Co Ltd to engage in specific discussions about the future of MaaS business in Japan. With an aim to launch an autonomous vehicle mobility service in central Tokyo in the mid-2020s, Honda Mobility Solutions will study and discuss various matters with the two companies including relevant laws and regulations, service designs and a division of roles and responsibilities among collaborating partners.

    Honda is aiming to roll out its MaaS service in Japan in the mid-2022s using the Cruise Origin, a vehicle Cruise, General Motors and Honda are jointly developing exclusively for use in an autonomous vehicle mobility service.

    HMS is responsible for such Honda MaaS business operations in Japan and strives to offer new on-demand driverless mobility services to resolve various traffic/transportation-related issues in urban areas, offering new forms of convenience and new value for its customers and society. To this end, based on the MoU, HMS will join forces with Teito and km Group to explore how autonomous vehicle mobility services can be offered as safe, convenient and comfortable services customers can use with peace of mind.

    Preparing for the start of service in central Tokyo, Honda and HMS will continue to strengthen coordination and collaboration with all stakeholders including transportation service providers and local municipalities while also planning to conduct various testing programs including the testing of autonomous driving technologies.

    autonoom rijden heeft ongetwijfeld een mooie toekomst. Er is en zal winst te maken zijn in die business. Het probleem is dat HD-kaarten, als dat al nodig is, door de auto's zelf worden gemaakt. Autonome auto's hebben een combinatie van radar en camera's, waardoor ze de perfecte tool zijn voor het verzamelen van digitale kaarten. Noch TomTom, noch HERE heeft de middelen om HD-kaarten zo vaak (dagelijks) bij te werken om het betrouwbaar te maken voor een zelfrijdende auto.
