Yahoo Forum: ----------------------- arnold_shortzenagger • 11 hours ago GT disclosure becoming a REALITY? BANKRUPTCY LOOMING? Gt discloses "Without significant sapphire revenue from Apple, we would still be required to repay in cash (on a quarterly basis) significant amounts of the Prepayment Amount beginning in 2015, which would limit our ability to invest in or operate other portions of our business, including our equipment operations, or to repay indebtedness at the time of maturity of such indebtedness. In addition, these repayments may exhaust all of our cash and, if we are unable to make a payment when due (or fail to meet our supply obligations), we will be in default and Apple will have the right to acquire control and possession of the ASF systems and/or our subsidiary (GT Advanced Equipment Holding LLC) that owns these systems (and to be paid in cash for any deficiency). "
Yahoo Forum: ---------------- arnold_shortzenagger • 11 hours ago to be fair with you, here is the concern that GT had disclosed about the other sources of revenue you were talking about, which are also in big trouble. GT discloses "We expect that oversupply of polysilicon, solar panels and sapphire material, including LED quality material, may have an adverse impact on our equipment business and, unless such oversupplies are reduced in the near future due to development of new technologies or otherwise, the negative impact on our equipment business could last for an extended period." "Each of the polysilicon, solar wafer, modules and cell and LED wafer markets have experienced significant oversupply. For example, our PV business experienced a 36% decrease in revenue for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2013 as compared to the same period in the prior year (although there are some market indicators suggesting that the PV market may be experiencing early signs of recovery). The consequence of this oversupply has been that those who sell into these markets (many of whom are customers for our equipment) are either required to sell at very low prices (including sometimes selling at a loss) or are unable to sell at all. Many customers have continued to experience large inventories of the polysilicon sapphire and multicrystalline silicon ingots generated with our equipment, even in markets where there is steady or increasing demand for polysilicon, solar wafer, modules and cell and sapphire material. As a consequence of these conditions, demand for all of our equipment, particularly our polysilicon reactors, DSS furnaces and ASF units, has dropped significantly. " Less 1 Reply to arnold_shortzenagger -------------------------------------- arnold_shortzenagger • 11 hours ago that was GT's disclosure not my imagination. Just look at the turn of events, all going against GT. Good luck, hoping isn't part of my investing or trading style.
Sapphire Screens Miss The Apple iPhone 6 Launch By “Weeks” Posted by: Matt Margolis September 10, 2014 I have been busy on the phone checking in with my supply chain sources. Since Apple announced the iPhone 6 yesterday people are beginning to talk. GT shipped large quantities of sapphire to the China finishers (Lens and Biel) over the past month. The plan as of a “weeks ago” was to include a sapphire covered iPhone 6 in yesterday’s launch. The issue that emerged is that the finishers were still having trouble creating the sapphire edges and yields were only at 25% or less. I am under the impression that GT’s management knew about this last minute shift away from sapphire screens prior to the August 5th conference call and it may have resulted in lower guidance for 2014 by $100m. The sapphire screens for the iPhone that did not pass quality checks were converted into Watch screens. Apple likely could not afford to launch the sapphire covered iPhone 6 until the 100% of the production issues have been resolved. I have been told the issue was not on GT’s side of the house but solely resides within the finishers involved in the process (Biel and Lens Tech). It is expected that all of the sapphire watch production will be shifted back to Mesa to consume some of the sapphire being produced from the Mesa, AZ plant. The remaining output from the Mesa, AZ facility is excessive and will likely continue to be grown for iPhone 6 cover screens. My source also indicated that the yield issues can be addressed and worked out but it remains to be seen when Apple will release a sapphire covered iPhone. GT has already overcome ramp issues inside Mesa and now the downstream finishers have a yield issue to work through. I also have eyewitness reports confirming that the Mesa, AZ plant was still running full tilt the week before Labor Day and I will post another update later today regarding the parking lot situation on the member forum. The latest information does seem to confirm that GT is on track to meet the production requirements set by Apple to receive the final prepayment from Apple. I am not thrilled with the latest production issues but it does make me feel a lot better even if my balance sheet is smaller knowing that GT was able to deliver the required sapphire for Apple’s iPhone 6 launch. There definitely seems to be some edginess regarding how GT will hit 2014 revenue targets and repay the prepayment obligation to Apple as indicated by Canaccord Genuity. I believe GT and Apple still have very big plans for sapphire as a cover screen on mobile devices. Apple may pay continue to pay GT for sapphire bricks that they ship even though the iPhone is not covered up by a sapphire cover screen. Another option thrown on the table is that Apple could even push back the Apple prepayment requirements until the finishing yields are addressed. One item that remains clear is that GT will continue to push out as much sapphire as humanly possible from Mesa.

Cheerio GT Advanced!
So THAT’s why Apple didn't use sapphire screens! Source reveals handsets repeatedly failed drop tests Sapphire screens were rumoured to be a feature on the iPhone 6 But the new handsets feature ‘ion-strengthened glass instead Source claims Apple had to abandon its sapphire screens They repeatedly cracked during tests carried out by Apple suppliers Sapphire screens were the most wanted feature of the handset Insurers have seen a 31% increase in damage claims in the past year By Victoria Woollaston for MailOnline Published: 10:38 GMT, 15 September 2014 | Updated: 12:38 GMT, 15 September 2014 Nearly every rumoured feature of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus turned out to be true, except one – the sapphire screen. Instead Apple unveiled 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch handsets that both feature ‘ion-strengthened glass,’ during last week's launch. And now reports claim the sapphire screens were set to be included on the new devices, but the plans had to be abandoned when they kept failing drop tests. Sapphire screens were rumoured to be a feature on the iPhone 6 (left) and iPhone 6 Plus, (right) but the new handsets feature ‘ion-strengthened glass instead. Source claims Apple had to abandon its sapphire screens after they repeatedly cracked during tests carried out by Apple suppliers Synthetic sapphire is a hard, transparent material made of crystallising aluminium oxide, produced at high temperatures. As the material is heated, it forms disks that can be sliced using diamond-coated saws. These round disks are ground into shape, and polished, to become glass. The technology is traditionally used in watch displays because it is thin, super-strong and scratch resistant. Apple already uses sapphire crystal in the Touch ID fingerprint scanner on its latest iPhone 5S and to protects the phone's camera. As a result, sapphire glass could potentially replace Gorilla Glass currently used in most high-end smartphones. IDC analyst Danielle Levitas told VentureBeat that recent supplier checks spotted ‘several reports of the sapphire failures.’ During standard drop tests, the screen was said to have repeatedly cracked, forcing Apple to resort to another method. VentureBeat additionally reports that the decision to switch screens was made just weeks before the launch event. A sapphire screen, however, was included on the Apple Watch and it is thought the smaller, 1.5-inch display wasn’t as fragile as the larger displays. A recent survey from usell.com found that the sapphire screen was the most wanted new feature on the next-generation devices, among 45.5 per cent of customers. This was higher than the number of people who wanted an improved battery life and larger screen. Mobile phone insurance firm, Protect Your Bubble, has seen a 31 per cent increase in damage claims across the UK over the past year, and this has been linked to weak screens. The only full sapphire-screened mobile phone currently available is the Vertu Signature Touch, a super-deluxe model that costs £6,750 in the UK and $11,300 in the US. Aside from the drop test claims, Apple is also thought to have abandoned sapphire screens because of the technology’s price. It’s estimated that a traditional glass screen costs a manufacturer around £1.80 per phone; a sapphire screen is believed to cost around £18.

Yahoo forum: ------------------------------ wisewhiskers • 59 minutes ago 5 users liked this posts users disliked this posts 3 Reply Painful watch This is really painful to watch. I see so many diehard fans refusing to capitulate, but yet the market is telling. People are selling. The buyers base is eroding. I know what it feels like. I've experienced this before and don't want to make the same mistake again. First is 1. Shock. You can't believe a day you believed would be so glorious in a minute fish tailed you and you are wondering what happened. 2. Denial. Maybe iphone6 ion X glass means GTAT. Maybe iphone6 is not part of guidance. Maybe Maybe... 3.Anger. It's not there yet, but I'm sure it'll be coming. At lease "losteverypenny" has reached this stage already. There's also deflected anger sniffing. My cost is less than $10 anyway, sniff. 4. Plead. This part is pathetic but we'll be pleading to some greater power to help us out of this hole. And if you're lucky and blessed, other good things in life can come into your life and wash away some of the pain. 5. Acceptance. Why go through that whole ridiculous process by hanging on to every cent of your shares. Lighten at least something and get some cash in your bank. You'll feel better the sooner you do it. And ignore the short taunts. They are trash talking you like a basketball game. They know by making fun of you, you become more stubborn and they enjoy seeing that. It's sadistic and karma will hit them back some day. Ignore them. But don't ignore the writing on the wall, the reality. GTAT lost the design into the iphone 6.
