UBS : European Economic Outlook 2016 – 2017 (Reinhard Cluse) – 2 November We expect the Eurozone recovery to continue, with real GDP growth of 1.5% in 2015 (previously 1.4%) and 1.8% in 2016 (previously 1.9%), followed by 1.8% in 2017. Nominal GDP growth, from 2.2% in 2015 to 2.9% in 2016 and 3.4% in 2017. We expect growth to be carried by domestic demand, while the impact of foreign trade is likely to be slightly negative. The key drivers of growth in 2016/17: (a) the ECB's easy monetary policy (Extension in QE & another deposit rate cut likely); (b) low oil and commodity prices supporting household consumption; (c) fiscal policy turning mildly growth-supportive; and (d) the recovery of credit conditions. We expect inflation to recover gradually, helped by additional ECB easing. Biggest downside risks - A hard landing in China and more economic trouble in the EM world. We downgrade 2016 forecast for Germany; Upgrades for Italy and Spain.

Deutsche Bank positive on European equities, despite weak earningsnews.markets/shares/deutsche-bank-pos...
European equities Credit Suisse’s strategists forecast 10% earnings per share growth in Europe versus 6.8% EPS growth in the U.S. “We expect that a catch-up in European corporate earnings will allow European equities to outperform U.S. equities,” Credit Suisse wrote. “Our technical analysts’ target for the Euro Stoxx 600 is 445, a 17% gain from current levels.” Barclays Research is also bullish on European stocks because the outlook for their earnings growth rate is higher than in the U.S., the U.K. and Japan. “Additionally, dividend yields above 3% provide attractive carry,” Barclays wrote in a “Global Outlook” report released Nov. 12. “But the case for European equities is undermined by our call for further euro weakness. We anticipate stronger local currency performance in euro area equities. But any returns should be offset by the currency move for investors who do not hedge foreign exchange risk.” The risks to this trade are that European stocks fall because of weak economic growth, no new economic stimulus from the ECB, a resurgence in political conflict or little emerging market demand for European goods. “Europe’s economy remains more exposed to the weakness in emerging market demand, as reflected in poor industrial performance, particularly in Germany,” Barclays wrote. “However, this seems to be compensated by the gradual strengthening of Europe’s domestic economy, as, on balance, recent indicators suggest relative resilience to the external challenges.”
JP Morgan : WorldView Q3 2015 Europe’s economic recovery is on track Consumption is the main driver of the recovery thanks to better labor market conditions, the lower oil price and reduced fiscal tightening (and not export). Quantitative easing can help to revive growth, but as ECB president Mario Draghi has emphasized, structural reforms are needed to transform an economic bounce-back into a sustainable long-term expansion. In the past year countries such as Spain, which have pressed ahead with reforms to introduce more flexibility to labor market and revive competitiveness, have significantly outperformed countries that have been slower to make these kinds of changes. Equities can still provide decent returns We see cyclical sectors benefiting from this improved economic momentum – and banks could be especially favored by the reduced need for provisions and by the reduction in write-offs in their credit portfolios. The plunge in oil prices is a challenge for some regions, but for Europe this is largely an opportunity. Equity markets are no longer cheap but can still provide decent returns if earnings continue to grow and investors follow active, bottom-up, strategies . am.jpmorgan.com/blobcontent/138324354...
JP Morgan Market Insights 4Q 2015 Porfolio Discussion US (note CP : taken from US investor's point of view) Investing in the early, uncertain stages of an economic recovery takes guts and discipline. And while risks clearly remain in Europe (Greece, for example), a more aggressive ECB, the declining Euro, lower oil prices, improving credit conditions and even some progress on structural reforms in key countries, all suggest a possible opportunity in Europe for long-term investors. Investment implications • Europe’s economy remains susceptible to external or internal shocks, but an acceleration of economic growth would lead to an improved environment for European equities. • Low inflation has led the European Central Bank to provide further stimulus, which should be a tailwind for both equity and fixed income markets. • Given the uneven nature of the European recovery, active managers—particularly those with a substantial research presence in local markets—may be well positioned to uncover opportunities.
Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) - November 11, 2015 Europe Eyes the Chance of More Stimulus On December 3, we think the ECB is most likely to: ¦ Expand QE. We think the ECB will probably announce two key changes to the current asset purchase program: 1. Increase the pace. Our base case is for the ECB to raise the amount of monthly sovereign bond purchases from the current €60bn to €70bn. 2. Extend the projected run. We expect the ECB to postpone the QE program’s review by around six months, from the current September 2016 to the first quarter 2017. ¦ Cut the deposit rate. President Draghi’s recent comments provided a rationale for a further cut to the deposit rate, which the ECB previously said would go no lower than the current -20bps. Asked in the October meeting about risks to the bank’s credibility if the ECB cuts the rate again, Draghi observed that a central bank’s credibility depends on its ability to achieve its primary mandate—in the ECB’s case, inflation just below 2%. We think a cut to -30bps is likely. assetmanagement.gs.com/content/gsam/u...
