    Amsterdam, 26th September, 2014 TomTom today launches the all new TomTom Golfer, a GPS sports watch designed to make it easy for golfers to improve their game. Unique course graphics clearly show accurate distances to hazards and layups, and the best approach to the green.

    The TomTom Golfer uses graphics to clearly show key golf course data from more than 34,000 golf courses across the globe on its extra-large screen. Course updates are delivered wirelessly via a unique smartphone app, so golfers can trust they are playing with the most up-to-date course information.

    Bosch gaat dit aanwenden voor zijn Advanced Driver Assistance Systems om zo nieuwe mogelijkheden toe te voegen aan het navigatiesysteem.

    Kijk, zo een had ik dus op de IAA verwacht (en dan bij het begin), omdat deze technologie samen met Mercedes trucks is ontwikkeld. Dat ze het in Parijs gaan demo-en betekent waarschijnlijk ook dat ze het nu ook in het personenwagen segment gaan uitrollen. Dan zal de nadruk wel meer op veiligheid (what's around the corner) komen te liggen dan op brandstofbesparing (road curvature). Gaat natuurlijk wel om grotere aantallen.

    En samenwerking met Bosch is niet fout. Hoe meer TomTom een waarmerk krijgt van "goedgekeurd door de Nederlandse Vereniging van Huisvrouwen Duitse Automobiel Industrie" hoe beter. Met Bosch zit je wel midden tussen DE toeleveranciers.

    Kleine correctie: m.i. Iveco = Astrata (voor een luizepiemelke qua Iveco gamma)

    Maar ik denk wel dat er nog grotere kralen in de pot zitten. Bosch is al een mooi formaat kraal. Die vind ik zelf heel wat boeiender dan die golfwatch. Maar Bosch is wel zo'n kraal voor "fijnproevers". Het duurt even voor je het intrigerende van het patina ontdekt.

    TomTom and Volkswagen partner to shape the future of Highly Automated Driving

    Paris Motor Show, 2 October 2014- TomTom (TOM2) and Volkswagen Group Research today announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to join forces for the development of Highly Automated Driving (HAD) systems.
    The goal of this research co-operation is to jointly develop the digital map that is essential for automated driving. The two partners bundle their competencies by combining TomTom’s expertise in map content and map making with Volkswagen’s know-how about the car as well as automated driving.
    The development of automated driving systems is highly complex. TomTom and Volkswagen aim to solve a part of this puzzle and have declared that they will jointly accomplish this.
    “Partnering with Volkswagen Group Research to develop the future of HAD reaffirms TomTom’s position as a key partner in the automotive market,” said Harold Goddijn, CEO TomTom. “TomTom’s mapping expertise provides the precise data and scalable technology platform needed to enable highly automated driving in cars.”
    Today the map that is used for navigation, including geometry, street names, and addressing, is not sufficient for the future needs of automated driving. The car’s computer will require much more accurate and up-to-date information about its location and environment than is provided today. This includes for example more detailed information lane markings and traffic lights.
    TomTom and Volkswagen Research are working on a concept based on the “Navigation Data Standard” (NDS) to deliver scalable and cost effective automated driving systems that do not require expensive hardware.

    Toyota extends deal with TomTom

    Paris Motor Show, 2 October 2014– TomTom (TOM2) today announced that it has agreed to extend its supply of traffic information to Toyota Motor Europe beyond 2016 to 2018. Toyota drivers will have access to TomTom Traffic and Places across the entire range*.

    PARIS--BMW AG (BMW.XE) took the wraps off the latest incarnation of its MINI small car at the Paris auto show on Thursday, a five-door hatchback that marks the brand's first entry into a segment that the German auto maker says is bigger and growing faster than the market for three-door cars.
    "With this model, MINI aims to capitalize on the growing segment for five-door hatchbacks which is twice the size of the three-door compact segment," said BMW executive Peter Schwarzenbauer.
    BMW is counting on the new MINI to restore some sales momentum to the brand, where sales have slipped this year as customers waited for new models to come out.
    Sales of MINI brand vehicles fell 9.0% to 175,658 vehicles in the first eight months of this year compared with the same period last year.
    However, BMW doesn't expect the longer wheelbase MINI, to outsell the smaller original three-door version, said Ian Robertson, the auto maker's head of sales.
    Around 70% of the small car segment is made up of five-door models, and only 30% three-door cars. "Our sales won't reflect that," Mr. Robertson told The Wall Street Journal, noting that customers primarily associate the MINI brand with three-door cars.

    De eerste Smarts in Europa worden dit jaar al met het complete navigatiesysteem van TomTom uitgerust. Smarts in China en de Verenigde Staten volgen in 2015. Als eerste krijgen de modellen Smart Fortwo en Forfour de navigatie van TomTom.
    Het concern maakt geen financiele details bekend.

    TomTom extends product portfolio with the launch of online navigation
    Amsterdam, 14 October 2014 – TomTom (TOM2) has extended its location-based services product portfolio with an online turn-by-turn navigation service for customers who want to offer a navigation application on an internet-connected device, without having to store a large offline map.
    As well as integrating TomTom’s existing navigation software and service products, such as NavKit, NavKit Worker and NavCloud, customers and developers can now integrate TomTom’s online turn-by-turn navigation. This also includes TomTom’s latest maps, real-time traffic, best-in-class routing, a comprehensive search function and easy-to-use software development kits.
    TomTom’s new online navigation service enables mobile device vendors and web service providers to provide online mapping and navigation applications that don’t require an offline map. The new service is also well-suited for products in the emerging wearables and internet-of-things product categories.
    In support of this product line extension TomTom has expanded its relationship with deCarta.
